R.Carlos Nakai presented his life,flute and musical history with guests at the Grammy Museum,Clive Davis Theater on the last day of March,and to say it was an unique experience was an understatement...From the beginning,executive director,Robert Santelli,made the crowd comfortable,and explained himself very well about the museums hopes and dreams for bringing a vast array of music and knowledge to a public who obviously loves various genres of the art form,as indicated by a person of such depth and love like Nakai...Nakai explained his journey through and in music,played some intricate crafts of his trade,and answered questions from the audience in a revealing and insightful look,placing one into his shoes for that moment...and the treat was in feeling his true emotions,thoughts and observations on the state of music and the true gift of improvisation that is given to special musicians of our generation...I asked him how he got that special sound he employs with his music,and he proceeded to demonstrate quite excellently...and the second part my question about his influences,namely dreams and visions,he responded with a special prayer and chant in Native language which totally touched my inner spirit which connected in a divine way,and he stated humbly that these influences played a major part in his music,life and destiny,for all of his music is for the people,and how can we love his music without applying that which we feel into our lives?All in all it was a rewarding pleasure to attend this event,and the Grammy venue definitely has a bright future ahead of itself with such entertaining occasions like this to meet artists close up and personal...
