About

PIETA BROWN IN CONCERT:

Whether she's performing at small clubs or huge festivals like Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam, folk artist Pieta Brown delivers a warm, intimate performance every time. Her irresistible blend of twangy folk and country rock features simple melodies, wispy drums, and softly strummed guitars and banjos. Indeed for Brown less is more -- the magic of her live shows rests in the most delicate moments, like when she wistfully croons about lost love on emotional tunes like "I Want It Back". Whether she's performing solo or with her longtime backing trio The Sawdust Collective, Brown always captivates ticket buyers with her seductive soprano and gracefully poetic lyricism.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Folk singer-songwriter Pieta Brown was born in Iowa City and grew up splitting time between her mother's and father's respective homes in Alabama and Iowa. She was trained in traditional and rural folk music by her father, Midwestern folk singer Greg Brown, and began writing poetry and composing songs on the piano at an early age. After picking up both the guitar and banjo in her early twenties, Brown met Grammy-winning producer Bo Ramsey, a longtime family friend and her father's guitarist. Ramsey produced Brown's self-titled 2002 debut album as well as her subsequent releases, including 2005's In The Cool and 2007's Remember The Sun. After the release of her fourth album, 2010's One And All, she joined Mark Knopfler's North American tour, additionally performing a string of dates with John Prine in 2011. She has since shared stages with indie heavyweights like Neko Case, Ani DiFranco, JJ Cale, and Emmylou Harris. In 2014 she released her critically acclaimed fifth studio album Paradise Outlaw, which was recorded over the course of four days at Bon Iver mastermind Justin Vernon's Wisconsin studio.

Great show over all and The Pines were really excellent. Very talented singers, songwriters and musicians. See them now and often, if you get the chance.
