B.B. King's is always a great venue to watch a show. The atmosphere is perfect for a intamate viewing. Always feel inganged instead of distant to the performer. Phonte definitely brought the house down with a highly energized performance.
I have been looking forward to this show for weeks. Had they simply showed up and said 'what's up', I would have been satisfied. Instead, they absolutely KILLED IT, doing some recent tracks, some back in the day tracks of the variety that make you go 'OHHHHHHHHHHHHH' as soon as you hear the first bar, then back to some newer stuff, then collaborations of new and old--just awesome. Heartfelt, intelligent, funny--I have literally been going through the range of emotions since Monday night. That was 48 hours ago. I saw Foreign Exchange @ Highline Ballroom a while back, before Authenticity was out, and remember (in fact I will never forget) Tey telling the crowd to please let him know if he is going to far off in different directions with his experimentation of his art. Quite the contrary, as this man can do it all. and you put anyone over a 9th beat and they are going to be hot, so the combo is just destiny combined with history in the making. WE NEED YOU IN NYC MORE!
Phonte and 9th held it down! They did both old classics and new classics. I also learned that Median is a great studio artist but I wasn't really feelin him live. The Away Team was dope. Wasn't feelin any of the other acts.
