    False Advertising

by woodman57 on 8/7/17Mohegan Sun Cabaret - Uncasville

This event was advertised primarily as Peter and the Wolf. A come on to attract children. P&W came on last, after about two hours, including a rambling speech by the producer, Joseph Albano. Our six year old was not charmed, although he manfully made it to the end. Peter and the Wolf itself was good. Afternoon of the Faun was excellent. The introductory My Country 'Tis of Thee would have been much better if the musiic was not blasted into our ears. The Sun's audio system perhaps needs attention.

"Peter and the Wolf" was a delightful experience from the minute you entered the doorway and made your way through the hands on "petting zoo" , watched Maggie prepare us for the entrance of the concertmaster and the maestro, and listened/watched the Symphony make the story come to life. Many, many thanks for all the efforts of all those involved (including the folks who gave the children lollipops as we exited). FANTASTIC way to spend a Saturday morning with your grandchildren.

    Lollipops: Peter and the Wolf

by Anonymous on 4/12/10Des Moines Civic Center - Des Moines

It was a very nice event for the children. My grandson is only 3 years old, but he understood who was playing the bird, the duck, and the cat. He was obsessed with the wolf and his whereabouts. He loved the mime, Maggie, and her antics. He was a little young for some of the pre-show activities, but loved watching and listening to the musicians. The coloring and activity tables could have been lower for the smaller kids. Overall, it was a wonderful way to let my grandson experience an orchestra for the very first time.

It was an amazing performance! My 7 year old boys really enjoyed the whole show. The conductor did a great job of explaining what all the instruments were and the characters that they represented. My boys also liked being able to see the instruments during the "petting zoo."

The Symphony did a spectacular job and the mimes added so much to the performance. It was a WONDERFUL experience and I hope the Symphony does similar events in the future. It was a great way to get kids interested in symphonic music and introducing them to all the instruments involved.
