    Could have been better

by Portsmouth Jimmy on 2/3/24Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

My recent attendance of “On A Winter’s Night” at Jimmy’s Jazz Club in Portsmouth fell short of my expectations. The 4 performers - Patty Larkin, Lucy Kaplansky, Cliff Eberhardt, and John Gorka - were all good (especially liked Gorka and Kaplansky). However, after they each performed 2 of their songs they then brought all 4 onto the stage to purportedly play together. However, “playing together” ended up being them each playing more of their own songs while the others just sat, sang or strummed along a little, or simply tapped the tops of their guitars. In Gorka’s introduction to the show he made it sound like they were going to play songs they had practiced together, but this was clearly not the case. Since this was the 16th show (out of 24) they had played together, it wasn’t that they were getting used to each other. This was the show! In my opinion, it would have been a much better show if they had each performed 4 songs and then played one song together at the end that they had practiced. So not a bad show but not one I would recommend to others. While it’s a chance to see 4 great performers together in one room, you would be better off picking 1 or 2 of them and seeing individual shows when they go back to performing alone in the future.

    Patty Larkin a rare talent

    by MusicAppreciator101 on 4/28/14Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUS

There are not many people on the planet who can thoroughly entertain and amaze an audience with just a guitar and a voice. Patty Larkin is one of them. She has an incredible combination of vocal ability, beautiful voice, intelligence, wit, relaxed manor, all the while playing guitar with a mind-blowing level of mastery and unique sound (I don't think any two songs shared the same tuning !). If you ever get a chance to see her perform,DO NOT MISS IT. Her music makes the world a better place.

    Patty is terriffic!

by lishell on 1/10/11Red Light Cafe - Atlanta

Great show, fantastic musician. Thanks Patty! I went with some friends who have been long time fans, so really I knew little of Patty. I was mucho impressed with her skill playing, songwriting and her voice. One of the best small shows I have been to. I am a new fan.

    Patty, Patty, Patty!

by Ronronron on 1/10/11Red Light Cafe - Atlanta

I recently heard Patty in Boston at a benefit concert and enjoyed her music alot. So when I saw that she was coming to Atlanta, I got a ticket! Again, I enjoyed her music, but this time I realized what a phenomenal guitarist she is. She did several songs in open tunings that really worked well with the words. I know how hard it is to be a solo artist these days, and Patty pulled it off with great grace. I'll go back to hear her every time she's in a venue I can get to. So, go see her!

    Patty Larkin Awesome as Usual

by WWJJDA2 on 4/9/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

She is one the best female guitar players on the planet, yet most don't know it! Patty was spectacular at The Ark in Ann Arbor. When you combine the amazing song writing skills with the difficult guitar work you have a wonderful live evening with Patty! Thank you!

Patty Larkin 25 Love Songs Tour

by MarathonJon on 4/9/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

Patty playing solo both acoustic and electric with innovation pouring out of each song. Enlightening chatter between some very big guitar and vocals. I fell in love with her music again and again throughout the night.

    Patty Larkin is amazing!

by WPJB on 3/15/10Aladdin Theater - Portland

John Gorka and Patty Larking provide an evening of witty and brilliant comments, eye-opening views of the world combined with incredible music. How Patty plays her guitar does not seem humanly possible in a physics type of way. Her voice is lovely. John sends his message out with humor and a voice that resonates.
