One Direction burst onto the scene in 2011 after having formed before the world's eyes on the British singing competition The X-Factor. English lads Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson and Irish chap Niall Horan each signed up for the show as a solo act but were ultimately convinced that they'd be much more successful as a group.
The boys clicked immediately and have been tearing up the charts ever since. 1D made history when their first studio album, Up All Night, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., and their follow up, Take Me Home, topped the charts in over 30 countries.
