    SO Nefarious!

by Killiam on 1/30/12Comedy Sportz Chicago - Chicago

Octavarius is an upcoming improv group in Chicago with enough talent not only as an improvisational comedy troupe, but also as musicians, sketch comedy writers and performers, and overall skilled entertainers. With all of the different sub-projects (two of the members have a musical comedy group, and their new mass media project "I Made America" seems to be taking Chicago by storm), you would think it'd be hard for this group of 20 somethings to put on a quality improv show each and every Sunday they are billed. However, Octavarius surely knows how to appeal to any demographic and incorporate the audience well, making it feel like you truly are part of the show. Of the different shows I've seen, there are new themes every week (ranging from Disney Princess shows to a full blown 3 part Die Hard Christmas special), and the dedication to each theme despite access to much of a set piece or costume selection is well worth the price of admission (which is also 30% off if you yourself participate in the theme!) Overall, this is a great up-and-coming improv group with more potential than you can shake a made up stick at. A must-see!!!!

    Totally Different, Totally Worth It

by sjustine22 on 9/28/11The ComedySportz Theatre - Chicago

My husband and I had a great time. I really liked how they did all sorts of different things during the show. There was a song, they had some improv games that I've seen before on TV, and at the end they did a whole 30 minute improvised thing that was really amazing.

It was only funny for the last 30 mins of a 90 min show.

    slightly dissapointed

by JoeJoeFet on 7/19/11ComedySportz - Chicago

The reviews I'd read for the show were good, so my wife and I thought we'd check this out. There were some very funny moments, but the last half hour or so was weak. The magician was great, the more planned sketch comedy at the front of the show was good.... but the attempt at real improve at the end of the show fell flat.

Octavarius was outstanding a must see

    by QT32 on 6/25/11ComedySportz - Chicago

8 your actors hitting on all cylinders during this 30 minute of Improv. Great timing , good movement stage, they get the audience involved and each show has a theme.

    Hilarious

    by matt83 on 6/22/11ComedySportz - Chicago

My girlfriend dragged me out to this show, because she'd read about it in Time Out. I was very skeptical, but I was soooo wrong. The show was "beach" themed so they had some beach muysic, silly costumes, and a dry t-shirt contest with volunteer dads from the audience (it was also father's day). The opener was a bit bland, but the main improv thing was cool. They had a Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers thing that was really funny.

    Way funnier than I expected

by bfallonset on 6/21/11The ComedySportz Theatre - Chicago

I usually get real skeptical of improv, because it so commonly crappy. But this group was an awesome surprise. The show was beach themed and so they were all in silly clothes, and they did a lot more with the show than just an improv set. They even had dads from the audience volunteer for a dry t-shirt contest where they had to act sexy. The improv was great and we hung around the theatre later with the rest of the audience.

    Octavarius: a true heartbreak

    by 48753947 on 2/15/11ComedySportz - Chicago

Disclaimer: My husband and I are 56 and 61. The St. Valentine's day audience for this performance was on average no older than 25 years. There were only a few moments of true comedy - and those were due to 3 stooge slap stick rather than true comedic improv talent on stage. Side note: internet reviews made metion of "clean" improv show" however, even for the 7pm show, there was too much reliance of sexual inuendo and fowl language. Now before you think we're thumbs downing this because of language, let me say that even if you took out the language, I'd still have to give this improve the same rating. Sorry, but it just wasn't very funny. I appreciate how difficult improv can be to pull off, but this group has a long way to go.
