    Amazing!

    by G. B. on 8/24/22

This is an amazing way to introduce the Nutcracker Ballet to a younger audience. Both girls and boys are able to enjoy the ballet in an abbreviated format but still get the magic of the Nutcracker ballet. The fact that there are young dancers on stage make kids feel like that could be them on stage (that is how my daughter feels)!! We started attending when my daughter was 4 and it is wonderful! We never miss!

Very enjoyable show but horrible venue

by Julie on 12/10/19The Louisville Palace presented by Cricket Wireless - Louisville

I usually love the Louisville Palace. It is beautiful! However, we had a horrible time getting in. Waited for over 30 minutes outside in line with three young kids in the cold. And we already had tickets! They started the performance a little late but we still came in about 5 minutes after they started in the dark with no help from ushers. The show was lovely but it is hard to enjoy it when you are steaming mad from how unorganized the entry process was. It definitely makes me hesitate to go again next year.

    Nice little program

    by Mama2013 on 12/6/16Louisville Palace - Louisville

Both my one and three-year-old daughters enjoyed the show even though there were some slight technical difficulties during the middle. It was annoying to sit and wait 5 minutes for the sound to come back on, and the sound was not mixed very well. The instrumentals were too loud and speakers were crackling even after they were able to get it turned back on. But this was no ones fault, it just happens. This is our second year coming and we will be back next year.

Nutcracker in a Nutshell Worth Seeing

    by MLS4000 on 12/6/16Louisville Palace - Louisville

This event is perfect for younger children ( and their MOM, AUNTS, GRAND PARENTS) Local children and young adults fill in the Corps and were terrific. Our 7 yr old grand daughter loved the shorter version. We have a full length DVD at home and she stops watching at the "intermission!" The Principal Dancers were excellent! Of course, the Palace in Louisville, KY is so beautiful and adds to the charm and "MAGIC" No recordings are allowed so a video is not available..

The show was just right amount of time for the little ones to pay attention. It was fun to see the young adults dance.

Shorter time is great for younger kids

    by Mommy888 on 12/12/13Louisville Palace - Louisville

This was my first visit to Nutcracker in a Nutshell, so I had no idea what to expect. I have only seen this ballet by professional dancers in the past. So, from a quality standpoint, I was a little disappointed to see most dancers in ballet shoes instead of pointe shoes. The older girls were in pointe throughout the Pas de Deux, but younger girls were in ballet shoes. I say this because the moves of most of the dancers were not as advanced as I have seen in the past. With that being said, THEY ARE YOUNG KIDS, so that is the level in which they were at. However, the duration of the ballet (about 1 hr, 30 min, with intermission) was perfect for my 5-year old. She enjoyed it, but asked if it was over at intermission! My 7-year-old was fully interested. Overall, it really was a nice show. I just did not realize that there were not more professional dancers in the show.

    Nutcracker-entertaining as usual

by rogdi on 12/10/13Louisville Palace - Louisville

This is the 4th year that I have taken my granddaughter to the Nutcracker in a Nutshell. This is a tradition and annual event for us. We both enjoyed it as much as the first time we saw it. My granddaughter's eyes sparkled as she watched it and was intent on not missing a moment. All of the actors, especially the children, were just wonderful and entertaining and the sets are so colorful. I hope to take both my granddaughter and grandson next year.

Great Nutcracker Version for Little Ones!

by BrookeMW on 12/10/13Louisville Palace - Louisville

This is a shorter, more little kid version of The Nutcracker. While the production is smaller and shorter than the original, it is lots of fun and quite adorable. The children dancers always make the audience giggle. :) Plus it's at the beautiful and historic Palace Theater. My only suggestion is that they turn the music up a little bit. It was so quiet, you could hear every little noise on stage and in the audience over it. Plus, half of the feeling you get from watching the Nutcracker comes from the music. The music never came to a crescendo when it was supposed to. The sound level stayed very flat the whole time. It was the same last year when we went, too.
