    Hugh Sheridan is really talented

by GarethEJ on 10/11/10Snapple Theater - New York

Hugh Sheridan and Nigel Ubrihien delivered an incredible show which faithfully told Anthony Newley's story in his own words and songs... Hugh channeled Mr Newley without imitation. The show shines the spotlight not just on Anthony the performer but the composer... and the fact that he wrote, or co-wrote, so many hits for others as well. Not just his own catalog. See it if you can.

    Hope to see him again

by Conangirl on 10/9/10Snapple Theater - New York

Why a young guy would choose to do a one man show about Anthony Newley is a mystery, but he did and it's terrific, as is he. As a '60s icon, the story of Newley's life and his music is a great one to consider now that we're in love with all things Mad Men. This was a showcase/backers audition of sorts and I predict he'll be back in the spring doing this off Broadway to rave reviews. So glad I can say I saw it first!

A One-Man Tour de Force of Nature

by AnthonyNYC on 10/9/10Snapple Theater - New York

In a one-night only benefit performance, Australian Hugh Sheridan resurrected Anthony Newley , and, as a result, introduced us to two powerhouse entertainers. Newley's story was told -- and sung -- beautifully from beginning to end of this often funny, but ultimately sad story. And then there's Hugh Sheridan. Amazing. Brilliant. A perfectly nuanced performance that doesn't merely imitate Newley, but actually embodies him. It's astounding to watch Sheridan play every stage from teenager to late sixties -- without makeup changes -- and completely capture every stage of the man's life. New York has seen the great Hugh Jackman on Broadway as Peter Allen, and, currently, three other incredible Australian boys who play Billy Elliot on Broadway and on tour -- now, seeing Sheridan, one has to wonder: what it is about Down Under that produces multi-talented people, who are such acting geniuses? It's only a matter of time before Hugh Sheridan becomes well-known here; I really hope that this gem of an evening has a life beyond Thursday night's benefit performance. Broadway's the natural home for true star power -- and Hugh Sheridan's star will be shining for a very long time.
