Zeola Gaye's My Brother Marvin
by Heremydear on 3/10/13Miriam Theater - PhiladelphiaI Loved the play.I thought the cast did an outstanding job! Zeola worked around her obstacles despite not having the rights to all his music. It helped me to understand his triumphs and struggles. The complexities around his relationship with his father. The relationship between him and Berry Gordy. The closeness between Him and his mother. The jealousy his father had for him.His determination to produce "What's Going On".despite the resistance from Motown. His relationship with God! His sadness over his mother's illness.I thought the singing was AWESOME! For me it gave me a better understanding of his life.It gave me answers to his tradgic death! I am going to see it again...and I highly reccomend it.Everyone I know who saw it...LOVED IT! Lynn Whitfeild and Clifton Powell really brought it home for me as Mr. and Mrs. Gaye. The 3 actor's that played Marvin captured him! Sure more of his music would have been nice but...the play was so real I could still hear it... in my heart. It gets 5 stars for me.I highly reccomend it! It gave me Closure... and answered many questions for me.I had alot of animousity towards his father...now ...I do Not! I loved the play.Kudo's to his sister Zeola Gaye. She did what she had to do to make it happen for his fans!
