Menopause The Musical on Tour

There are ch-ch-changes of life aplenty in Menopause The Musical, the hit Off-Broadway production (2002-06) that has sold more than 15 million tickets since its 2001 debut. Written by Jeanie Linders, Menopause rejiggers two dozen hit songs from the ‘50s through the '80s to talk to women — and the men who love but may not completely understand them — about food cravings, hot flashes, memory lapses, night sweats, the lure of cosmetic surgery and other common responses to the natural aging process. The longest-running scripted musical in Las Vegas history, Menopause is playing at Harrah's Cabaret and around North America on the latest legs of a tour that has included some 500 cities worldwide. Call its appeal "half-universal" and join Menopause's celebration — with laughter and sisterhood — of something every woman may eventually experience.

About Menopause The Musical

A Professional Woman, an Earth Mother, an Iowa Housewife and a Soap Star meet in Bloomingdale's lingerie department. So begins Menopause The Musical, which quickly amps up into a series of rollicking rewrites of familiar pop hits: "Chain of Fools" becomes "Change of Life," "Staying Alive" becomes "Staying Awake," "Night Fever" become "Night Sweating" and "My Guy" becomes "My Thighs." The music is nostalgic and the wordplay never less than clever. ''Nothing I can do 'cause it sticks like glue — to my thighs,'' sings the Iowa Housewife. ''No matter what I eat, there's always cellulite — on my thighs.''

While the four women come from vastly different backgrounds, they share a single inescapable characteristic: All are going through menopause. In addition to common observations on appetites ("Looking for Food in All the Wrong Places") and energy lapses ("Puff, My God I'm Draggin'"), Menopause goes there with slightly edgy observations on vibrators ("Only You") and antidepressants ("My doctor prescribed a pill to control my urge to kill").

Menopause The Musical provides a rare opportunity to see older female actors in starring roles discussing menopause publicly. It also recognizes, represents and celebrates female audience members as never before, and that's one change long overdue.

    Vegas show

by Jb on 3/15/20Harrah's Cabaret at Harrah's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Seating was awkward. 4 chairs at a very small table, very crowded. Needed to scoot chair back a little for leg room which put us in the aisle. Sound was over powered for the size of the room. The actors were very funny.

by D. D. on 3/10/20Harrah's Cabaret at Harrah's Las Vegas - Las Vegas

My girlfriend and I laughed so hard -she said I had tears laughing so hard. It was totally funny! The men in the audience were laughing too! I think most of them were 40+ that could relate to what their wives have gone through! Just a totally awesome show! I'd recommend to ladies and men 40+ And the Actors and Singers were just totally top notch Broadway singers!

    Menopause review

    by J. P. on 3/2/20Julie Rogers Theatre - Beaumont

The show itself was very funny although much shorter than expected. I paid over 60.00 for each seat and we were placed in an area where wheel chairs were to go. When the chairs were put in place those of us seated behind them were unable to see over them and there was barely enough space to turn the chairs to get them situated properly. I was able to get other seats in another location through the manager though. It was a fun night out but we just felt the show was rather brief for the price paid.

    Constant Laughter!!

by Jama on 2/26/20Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

This show is hysterically funny!! I laughed throughout the whole performance. The ladies are perfectly cast in their roles. As a lady actually in menopause currently this show provided such a supportive environment for me. Each song's lyrics have been changed to be focused on a particular symptom of menopause. All of the songs were great songs of my generation which i enjoyed immensely. I'm so happy to have seen this terrific musical!! I loved it⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

By far the most entertaining and hilarious musical yet! We had an amazing time and laughed until we cried! My favorite part was being included at the end of the show in the kick line! I always knew I would be a star someday, 😁😁

    Funny and entertaining

by Jackie on 2/26/20Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

The 4 actresses are very talented. The music chosen was familiar to the audience with the words changed to tell the story. It's definitely geared for an audience of women.

    Laughed until I cried

by bkmartin on 2/26/20Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Went to see this with 8 of my friends -- some had been through, some weren't there yet, but we all laughed until we cried. So pertinent, so funny, so validating! I encourage all women of a certain age (or headed that way) to see it when you can!

Fun Night out for the Ladies!

    by K. D. on 2/18/20Packard Music Hall - Warren

This was our second experience with Menopause. It is down to earth, truly what ladies experience, humor to help deal with the change of life. The second performance was just as funny but much shorter than the first showing which means I didn't get the same length of time for the money spent on a ticket. I come from over an hour away and was expecting more. I won't be seeing it again. If you haven't seen it, it is worth a one time opportunity.
