About

MATTHEW E. WHITE IN CONCERT:

Bandleader Matthew E. White takes a laid-back approach to his breezy and soulful brand of rock ‘n’ roll. In concert his vocals range from a soothing baritone to a soft falsetto, and his bluesy, R&B-influenced ballads evoke legends like Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson. With their razor-sharp blend of funky bass, brushed drums, and rollicking blues guitars, White’s backup band is sure to have ticket buyers bouncing along to the feel-good rhythms. On tour in support of 2015's Fresh Blood, Matthew E. White has fans across the country excited to experience his down-home feel-good vibes in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Virginia Beach, VA-born Matthew E. White started playing drums in 6th grade before switching to guitar at his mother’s insistence. After playing with The Great White Jenkins for several years, he began to focus on record production and founded his own label Spacebomb Records in 2011. Using the production model of Stax Records and Motown, he began assembling a dedicated house band that could seamlessly perform a variety of musical genres. He enlisted the talented house band to perform on his 2012 debut album Big Inner, which generated widespread acclaim and earned him the title "Best New Act of the Year" by Paste magazine. In addition to his solo work Matthew is the founder of Patchwork Collective, a group dedicated to developing a vibrant local music scene in their home base of Richmond, VA. White returned to his solo-artist roots in 2015 with the album Fresh Blood, which received extensive critical praise and led to a string of soulful performances on tour.

One didn't get the sense that the entire band had played together much before this gig. Sound was muddy. However, one can reasonably expect that Matthew E. White is going to be a musical force to be reckoned with for years to come.
