    An outstanding performance

by borey on 5/8/18New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

London Symphony is an amazing orchestra, and Sir Simon Rattle is one of the best conductors of our time. Their rendition of Mahler’s 9th symphony was brilliant. The only problem was the audience (which thought it appropriate to clap after every movement and consumed snacks in rustling packages during the performance as if this were a baseball game). I honestly don’t know why any musician would want to perform in a venue that’s only half filled up (at best!) even for the best concerts and that attracts people who think nothing of eating potato chips during the concert.

    Wowsa!

A remarkable evening! The LSO was wonderful (as it always is), but pianist Yuja Wang was stupendous! In all my years attending concerts at NJPAC I've never seen anyone received so enthusiastically. After four (or was it five) curtain calls, she gifted us with four encores. The audience just did not want her to leave! Could she be the best pianist in our time? i think even Horowitz would have.given her a standing ovation

One of my most memorable musical events

by AnotherNJMusiclover on 10/27/15New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

The London Symphony under Maestro Valery Gergiev is a miraculous ensemble, most appropriate adjective for describing their performance of Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin. Maestro Gergiev's selection of pieces for this concert was the perfect choice for demonstrating the orchestra's virtuosity under his baton. Mr. Bronfman's performance of Bartok's least played third piano concerto was amazing. His perfect balance of power with ultimate intimacy made one want to keep on listening to this wonderful very personal last work of Bartok's. The concert concluded with a brilliant performance of Stravinsky's complete score of the Fire Bird, rarely performed in this format. Mr. Gergiev's surprise throw-in of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet was the the cherry that made this a perfect musical experience. Bravo LSO!
