Reggae rock outfit Lionize has become a festival favorite with their inimitable live energy and sense of humor on stage. The seasoned performers released their fifth album Jetpack Soundtrack in 2014 to critical acclaim, supporting the album with a headlining US tour and string of groove-heavy dates on the Vans Warped Tour. Whether they're paying homage to their early reggae-inspired work with tunes like "Space Pope and the Glass Machine" or busting out newer funk rock jams like "Amazing Science Facts", Lionize are an animated live act that always entertains with their eccentric lyrics and kooky energy on tour.
Lionize formed in Maryland in 2004, forging their unique sound during a series of all-night jam sessions. After several years of extensive touring, the band traveled to Jamaica to record their reggae-tinged 2008 debut album Space Pope and the Glass Machine. Before long they began to incorporate elements of blues and soul, and the result was the acclaimed hybrid sound heard on the 2011 albums Destruction Manual and Superczar and the Vulture. Lionize's ever-evolving music and passionate energy on tour attracted the attention of the Weathermaker Music label, and in 2014 they made their debut on the label with Jetpack Soundtrack. That album earned praise from critics for its ambition and zany energy, setting big expectations among ticket buyers for the band's future tour dates.
