Being able to see KISS, at Madison Square Garden, in their hometown of NYC, for their final live performance ever, was both bittersweet and a privilege. Knowing this was their final performance, the energy in the building among the fans before and during the show was palpable. I was privileged to be close enough on this final evening to be bombarded by an incredibly loud and beautiful performance. I was also near enough to feel the heat from the flames on the stage, and many in my area almost felt as if we were in the performance. The band sounded great!!! The love between the band and their lifelong (and new) fans was reciprocal. This was the end of an era, easily one of rock's most unique bands. Not only is/was KISS incredible visually and musically, they are also one of America's greatest rock bands. Without exaggeration, they may quite possibly be the greatest live band ever. The current lineup of this band is solid, yet in speaking with fans, the only real disappointment on this final night might have been the abscence in some form of the physical inclusion of Peter Criss and Ace Frehley who made the original incarnation of this band so classic and iconic. Regardless, both Peter and Ace were embedded in the final performance visually and musically in more ways than one. There's really no way to describe the connection between the band and their beloved KISS Army. As opposed to the previous night where I was further away, I was fortunate enough this evening to feel so immediate to everything. Instead of feeling melancholy like the night before, my experience of the final performance was so loud and so good, I didn't have the opportunity to experience anything other than joy and fulfillment. I'm glad it ended this way. Even Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were visibly teary-eyed during the final song of the encore - and why wouldn't they be?!! The final performance at the End of the Road Tour was poignant, important, epic, and awesome in so many ways. For our own selfish reasons, we would love to see KISS perform forever - yet no real fan of this incredible band could ever really begrudge them for wanting to spend the remaining quality time they have with their family, friends, loved ones, and in enjoying life in the way they best see fit. As one who has spent a lot of money on this band in terms of albums, concert tickets, and other things, I don't believe I'm the only one who can honestly say that what I have given to them in no way exceeds what they have given to us. The joy they have given us will last a lifetime. This was the current band's final live performance, yet in other ways, they will always be with us. Magically (and KISS always has been), it seems that in many ways, the road will go on forever. Thank you Paul, Gene, Peter, and Ace. We love you!!! We will miss you. Thank you KISS!!! There will never be anything like you!!!
