About

Prodigal Son
Choreographer: George Balanchine
Music: Sergei Prokofiev
Based on the biblical parable about a
young man who leaves home, this is a tale
of sin and redemption from one of the
master choreographers of all time.
Lilac Garden
Choreographer: Antony Tudor
Music: Ernest Chausson
Tudor’s masterpiece explores the conflicting
emotions of a young woman, trapped by the
strictures of Edwardian culture, who is forced
to give up the young man she loves to marry
another she does not.
RAkU
Choreographer: Yuri Possokhov
Music: Shinji Eshima
Possokhov uses the burning of the Golden
Pavilion in Kyoto, Japan as the point of
departure for a story of love, treachery,
separation and tragedy. Set in Japan’s
past, a warrior and his beloved princess are
pulled apart by the schemes of a jealousy-crazed
monk.

    OK

by Vovik on 9/24/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

My wife and I liked two first pieces. Balanchin's work - excellent ballet work Chausson Poem a bit monotonous and not engaging as the first piece. But the violin was absolutely fantastic. The third piece RaKu is maybe of interest of those who likes the Oriental culture. We did not care for it much and left in the middle. Very poor notes in the Playbill. After all this is a ballet and the audience would be much more alert if they knew what they are looking at. But overall it was a time worth to spend.

RAKU was astounding in every way

by DRLC on 9/23/14Auditorium Theatre - Chicago

This was a fine program with three distinctive modes of ballet narrative. I found the RAKU performance immensely moving and stunningly presented--music, dance, visual effects in perfect combination for maximum emotional impact. For me it was literally breathtaking.
