For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

Hamilton lives up to the hype. Creative, entertaining & amazing. Talented & diverse cast. A wonderful theatre experience.
I’m a 70-year-old woman for whom rap is not my favorite music form. Hamilton changed that! Amazing and moving!
The theatre is a beautiful somewhat intimate setting. The script was phenomenal - so chocked filled with insight on an important time in American History through the life of Alexander Hamilton. Same issues that existed back then exist now - and to put it to music and dance makes it come alive for anyone who loves the theatre. Beautiful voices on all the performers and great dance ensemble. A perfect evening.
Second time I’ve seen it and i loved it better than the first time. Best show ever!!!
Attended the performance on Sunday with daughter, son-in-law and 16 year old granddaughter. All 4 of us enjoyed the show tremendously. The acting in conjunction with the music and dancing kept us engaged and thrilled during the entire performance. We had been looking forward to attending for a very long time and we were not disappointed. It was fun to also learn history that we were not previously aware of.
However, the first time I know the seats would have a partial view, after purchasing the seats from the theatre last November or so, was when I downloaded them to the Wallet on my phone the day of the show. And why would the theatre charge the same for unobstructed center orchestra seats and partial view from the side? That should have been disclosed. When I ordered I could not select location, just date and section in general. We were very satisfied with the show, but this left a bad taste in my mouth
It took 4 years to finally see the musical. It met my expectations and then some!
The show was incredible. We had waited awhile to see Hamilton. So very much worth the wait. Cast was phenomenal and brought the story to life. An emotional experience. My wife said after the show if that was how they taught history I would have payed more attention.
The show was great and indeed deserves all the critical acclaim it has been receiving. However, Richard Rogers Theater is old and uncomfortable. There was no knee room and only had 2 bathrooms on the ground floor. The venue was the only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars
Best musical ever been too. Must see. Buy tickets now!
Hamilton was amassing. Best experience I've ever had.
Date night on steroids. I've seen shows in New York, London, Boston, Chicago, San Diego, Las Vegas...love musicals. This was by far THE BEST EVER!!! Refused to buy scalped tickets but as soon as I knew we had to stay overnight in Manhattan I was on it--got tickets in the 8th row--but it wouldn't matter where you sat. No words can describe it except this was entertainment at its best!
What an amazing musical that includes dancing, rap, acting and comedy. It blows your mind away, just thinking about the genius that put this together. To be able to turn a boring historical recount into an imaginative current musical, that makes you think, is. Mastermind. The people at the theatre we’re friendly and helpful. Special shout out out to Asia...
I am not a lover of RAP music because this is a genre outside of my comfort zone and age parameters. I was greatly surprised how much I enjoyed this show. I saw the original cast and hope to see it again with the new cast members. It was by far the best play I have seen. I love musical theater and have seen countless plays over my 72 years of life but this one blew me away. First it was educational, secondly it entertained, third the talent was fantastic and last but not least the music was great. The next best thing to this is Come from Away, also educational and uplifting. The story of Hamilton forced me to; purchased the book upon which the play was based, buy the CD which also contained all the lyrics so I could sing along and sign up for the lottery so I could go again. I loved it and recommend it highly!
My family attends Broadway shows in New York approximately 10+ times a year. Never have I complained (or felt the need to complain) about ANY show. We could not wait for the all powerful Hamilton! The legend on Broadway that has people paying $1000 or more per ticket. This performance did not live up to all of the hype!!! Was a huge disappointment! The cast energy low, Angelica & Eliza voices flat, Hamilton rap mediocre and I could go on. Save your $$$. Go see Hadestown, Come From Away, Beetlejuice or Frozen...you’ll thank me!!!!
The three legs of theater are ethos, pathos and logos. Hamilton did none of those well..Hamilton is a constant 144 word per minute machine gun, the thousandth lick of the same lollipop, self impressed at itself but only skin deep. Look, it was enjoyable, great singers and dancers but songs were mostly forgettable and similar and dancing monochromatic. Good theater , like a good rollercaoster, builds up and releases drama. It finds a way of emotionally attaching you to at least some characters. Perhaps this subject matter made it too difficult to succeed at that..Regrettably ,Lin Manuel prioritized and injected all over the place today’s pc culture, thus losing additional focus and trivializing this greatest time in american history. I guess this was Lin manuels way of attracting patrons, creating hype and capitalizing(show me da money) on today’s hyperbole...and there is no doubt that he at least succeeded on that.
I came all the way from London to see Lin-Manuel perform this musical, it was my daughter's birthday present (she is only 10 and knows the whole musical by heart). To my surprise four of the original cast were not performing any longer. I paid a exuberant amount of money with the promise to see award winning performers and in exchange I saw a musical which concept was amazing but with actors that could not execute it properly. The actor that plays Hamilton CAN'T rap, which is the whole point of the musical. He was trying to sing instead and his performance, specially in the last monologue, which is one of the most touching moments of the musical was very poor. The new Aaron B. showed potential but he was out of breath in the first song. The new Thomas Jefferson/Lafayette is a great actor amazing energy, but came in late in lots of his parts, which makes me wonder if the sound system had a delay for the actors. Again it's a genius idea, but the new cast needs serious consideration. I'm just hoping the casting in London is done properly, just like it was for In The Heights. I hope I can make it up to my daughter one day :(
I was fortunate to see the show 3 times with the original cast. They were terrific. They were all fluid and perfectly intertwined. Now that the Tony winners and many of the original dancers have left, the understudies have filled the void. While they tried, it just wasn't as good. I saw the show with 2 different under studies replacing the incredible Daveed Diggs who played Lafayette and Jefferson. In my opinion, their attempts to imitate Daveed just didn't work. It looked forced and unnatural. My biggest complaint though is with the inconsiderate theater goers who come back from intermission 5 minutes AFTER the second half starts forcing everyone to get up to let them get to their seats. Or the whispering during the show. Or the cell phone that's on with its distracting light. If you don't want to be aggravated with someone crawling over you, get a seat in the middle of any row. On the aisle, you'll be jumping up and down repeatedly. For what they're charging for these seats, the audience deserves better. And next year the price goes up to $850 for the orchestra and no original cast......no.
Hamilton lives up to much of the hype that surrounds it. While there were small moments that I felt the cast didn't put 100% into the performance, I was overall amazed by the production. From the lighting and set design to some amazing performances by the cast (including an understudy for George Washington who I think stole the show and beyond perfect performance by Rene as Angelica Schyuler), you will leave the show feeling both excited about what you've just seen but heartbroken by the ending of the story. It is definitely one of the best shows I have ever seen.
This was the absolute best musical I have ever seen. From beginning to end I was blown away!!!! The powerful and emotional singing of all the actors; the ensemble's mesmerizing movements and dancing; the addicting musical score and the beauty of the stage lighting made this the highlight of my life. Thank you to everyone involved!
