Wonderfully energetic, perfectly coordinated dancing, imaginative choreography!
An astonishing dance troupe landed in Boston and we were very lucky! Saw them at Jacobs Pillow years ago and they are even better now. Just resented the woman in front of me filming, with no ushers to be found to put an end to it.
The dancers were fabulous and the movement was unusual and captivating. I had brought a friend who didn't have much experience with dance and as he closed his eyes and looked down several times during the performance I thought he was not enjoying it. However, when the first piece was over he looked at me and said 'fabulous'. The second piece was just as good and we left feeling very satisfied with our evening and experience.
Grupo Corpo's performance in Boston was truly extraordinary. The troupe's talent is stratospheric! Rhythmic and exuberant. Many dancers were smiling. The choreography was complex and gorgeous: extremely precise, but also fluid. The music was powerful and every move felt syncopated and colorful. The costumes were monochromatic: off-white loosely fitting shirt and pants in the first act and just white flowing skirts in the second. Many women had cropped hair and we were continuously impressed by how refreshingly androgynous and egalitarian the troupe seemed. It wasn't about coupling (Yay!) or a hierarchy of dancers. Sometimes all 22 dancers performed very complex movements together -- always in synch with one another. The entire performance was original and fresh. Grupo Corpo is an exceptional troupe that seemed to push their bodies to the very limit of what seemed possible. Pure contagious energy and joy.
My partner and I see a lot of dance and were both awed by every aspect of the show Grupo Corpo offered at the Schubert in Boston. The choreographer seems to have found a new dance language. Movements are both fluid, demanding and fresh. The talent and skill of each dancer was on display, costumes and lighting enhanced the individuals and the use of the space. The extended standing ovation was well deserved. I hope to see them again.
I was blown away by the artistry and endurance of the dancers. It was captivating all the way through, and the music was so original yet strangely familiar and highly engaging. I loved every minute of this performance. Kudos!!
Two 45-minutes halves of dancing, where the performers never stopped, but transitioned seamlessly from one routine to another, sometimes leading the music and sometimes being led by it. I would be hard-pressed to assign a theme to this performance, but my friend and I were never short of mesmerized. I wish the troupe had enjoyed a larger crowd.
This was an amazing performance by a high-energy, breath-taking, beautiful group of individuals. Absolutely worth the price and the two hour drive. If they are near your city, make the trip!
Grupo Corpo Dance Company's presentation was just impeccable! The first dance "Sem Mim" really gave the sensation on the sea with their fluid movements and the beautiful costumes! Please come back to Chicago!
This show was phenomenal. The repertoire was complex and technical and each piece was fast-paced and executed flawlessly. How have I never seen this company before? Very easy to watch, so even if you're not a huge dance fan, you'll find enjoyment in it. Can't wait to see them again!
