Be warned, Sixth & I has no convenient parking in the immediate vicinity. On this Saturday night, one of the listed parking garages was closed, another was full, and the third was blocked off by police. It was an absolute nightmare trying to drive through downtown DC on a weekend night, which we chose to do because the metro is actually more expensive and so much slower coming from the ends of the metro lines. Even given the massive headache I had by the time we reached Sixth & I, I would do it all again for another show like this. Gretchen Parlato truly is a unique vocalist, and every member of her band was amazingly talented in their own right. The venue was perfect for her voice and presentation, making the show feel more intimate and involving than any other seated show I've ever seen. This was definitely a night to remember!
This was one of the best shows I had seen in a very long time her band I don't even have words to tell you how great that band was so with me saying all that get a ticket if she is ever in your town and see her best money I spent on a show .
Very intimate show (that's Gtretchen). Overall I would see her again, however, in a much smaller venue. Her show and sound caters to a more intimate setting. The room swallowed up her stage presence and her music. Everything about the show felt small to me for such a big venue. She had a trio backing her. Her voice is so quaint that sometimes the music drowned her out. The worse part is, the show was too short. Granted, my wife and I got there 30 min late (our fault), but by the time our food order came, she was finished performing. Show was barely an hour...
