Todd was so funny and his voice was awesome!

by RAC58 on 10/19/12Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

It opened with Ethel, which was very good. Then came Todd, solo. He played guitar, piano and ukulele, all perfect and his voice was unbelievable. Then they all played together, his songs. Todd is a true entertainer, a real blast. It was great show because of Todd Rundgren! Ethel was good but Todd's the man!

    Tell Me Something Good Delivers!

by GRX100 on 10/19/12Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - Gainesville

ETHEL's "Tell Me Something Good" is a post modern string quartet's exploration of the music of the 70's and who better to help them out but a man who put out some of the most amazing music of that decade, Todd Rundgren. This was a three part concert, and each was highly enjoyable. ETHEL opened the show with an intriguing take on 70's music, incorporating beat box and synthesizers. This band has real chops as musicians, and they weave a rich. complex syncopated sound that mesmerizes. Next up was a solo performance by the nearly impeccable Todd Rundgren, who admitted on opening night that he may have not practiced his own material enough. And yes, he did miss a few lines but the performance, alternating between guitar and piano, was that kind of rare, intimate experience where there is absolutely nothing standing between the performer and the audience. The finally was a 50 minute set with Todd being joined by ETHEL to unleash a sonic soup that contained elements of jazz, classical, musical theater, pop and heavy metal. Shows this innovative are few and far between. See it if you can!

Very disappointing show, Ethel was very good when they played their solo set, but it was downhill from there.
