Escher String Quartet Tickets

Coming as a late replacement for the originally scheduled quartet which was forced to cancel, the young players of the Escher Quartet gave a fine performance including two early works, by Purcell and Gesualdo, a too infrequently heard gem by Benjamin Britten, and a Beethoven warhorse. While the latter is not one of my favorites, the Escher Quartet played it with panache and feeling, deserving of the standing ovation they received. About my only complaint was the inclusion of the two brief Gesualdo works which neither fit the program nor were a showcase for the skills of the quartet. Otherwise it was an excellent concert with good repertoire, very worthy of a Autumn Saturday afternoon. I hope to hear more of this group in the near future.
