Anyone with the opportunity to see Futral in concert should take advantage of it. Her repertoire is growing, and she has already mastered some of the great Italian roles (e.g., La Traviata, Lucia di Lammermoor, etc.). She performs Handel and Bach with grace, and a number of American pieces with undue charm; not least of all, some southern numbers that allow her Covington, LA roots to reverberate. Her stage presence is grand, and with but a minimalist orchestra, standing next to a single piano, she transforms the backdrop into an ethereal realm. I cannot speak highly enough of her talent, and hope one day to see her in a full production opera. Brava per una diva incantevole!!
Here was a complete program of singing and playing. The supporting musicians were amazingly good and a match for this incredible voice. The program was varied, challenging, and beautifully sung throughout.
