So thankful I got to see Daniel Johnston

by BobLoblawsLawBlog on 11/14/17Moore Theatre - Seattle

The show was unique in a few ways, but primarily because it started with a movie. The music itself was fantastic--Built to Spill played the role of backing band and were great. While Johnston's voice sounds a bit different these days, it was still fantastic. The seats in the lower section of the Moore were pretty room, but that's not the case up in the balcony where it feels like being on an airplane.

    Daniel is worth the wait.

by Nixferatoo on 11/7/17Herbst Theatre - San Francisco

Was not aware I’d have to watch a full movie before Daniel and the band took the stage. Still, once he and the band came on, the music was raw, heartfelt and genuine - total Daniel Johnston and totally worth the wait.

Daniel was everything I expected and more. It was an honor to see him perform and something I will never forget. He is magical. If you have a chance to see him, do it!

Im a big Daniel Johnston fan. They showed the two hour documentary ,The Devil and Daniel Johnston, and then he came out.He was great, but he sang only for a half hour.Just wish there were more songs. He did sing some good ones like Funeral Home,Honey I sure miss you,Life in vain ,and True love will find you in the end.

    A total rip-off

by BorisK on 10/10/17Town Hall - New York

I paid $60 to watch a movie and then a bunch of (mostly) no-name musicians back up Daniel Johnston for *half an hour*? That thumping sound you hear in the distance is me kicking myself.

    Sad

by ProfessorPlum84 on 10/7/17Tower Theatre - Upper Darby

Daniel was so debilitated between his mental illnesses, old age, and whatever cocktail of psychiatric drugs he’s been taking for most of his life that it pained us to see him perform. The songs and the music were great as expected, but even though he’s never had a great voice, it was exceptionally cringe-worthy this evening. His hands were shaking so profusely while he was trying to hold the microphone that I was afraid he was going to accidentally hurt himself or others. Showing his documentary before the show was a nice touch. I’m glad Daniel was able to do one final tour, but I hope that it was for himself and that he was not being exploited. I regret not having the opportunity to see him before his health had deteriorated so much. After the first 10 or 15 minutes of his performance we had to excuse ourselves, so we left, because it was too emotionally taxing for us to witness him in that state. My girlfriend actually started to cry because it upset her so much.

    Daniel Johnston, the Legend

by bonitajordan on 7/25/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

I am so happy to have been able to see Daniel live and also purchase a few of his signed prints for only $15 each! The opening bands were good too.

    Daniel Johnston was breathtaking

by Ktmcd on 7/24/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Every song Daniel Johnston played was incredible. I loved every second of every song he played. The band right before him that played though was pretty awful. But besides that, the show was awesome and unforgettable!

Amazing! Would of rather he do more on his own or with accoustic player instead of with opening band.
