Charlotte Hornets History

The original Charlotte Hornets franchise joined the NBA in 1988 and, thanks to players such as Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning and Kendall Gill (and later, Glen Rice, Anthony Mason and Jamal Mashburn), enjoyed substantial success in the 1990s, starting with the 1992–93 season. Owner George Shinn moved the franchise to New Orleans in 2002.

But the NBA returned to Charlotte for the 2004–05 season with the expansion Bobcats, led by owner Robert L. Johnson, the first African-American majority owner of a team in one of the four major sports. In 2010, Michael Jordan took over majority ownership of the franchise, and in 2014, Jordan's team re-adopted the Charlotte Hornets name after the previous New Orleans Hornets became the Pelicans.

During the 2017–18 season, four-time All-Star Kemba Walker became Charlotte's all-time leading scorer, surpassing original Hornet Dell Curry.

    Best experience

by Special on 3/18/24Spectrum Center - Charlotte

The game was amazing. The view from my seating was amazing. The food was over priced, I mean for 1 hotdog it was 5$. Other then that I had a great time.

    Not Good, Not Bad

by Todd Youngblood on 3/18/24Spectrum Center - Charlotte

First experience at this arena, brought my 75 year old father to see the game for is Bday. Pros - Very helpful Staff, made sure he used elevator, kind and courteous. - Clean Arena, Easy to Navigate - Lots of fan entertainment with Dancers, Hugo Dunks, Cheerleaders (Dad liked the girls!) - Jumbo Tron helped both of us see things better. -Cons - The leg room was way too tight, - The vertical incline of section 208 Row "O"made me wish we could have gotten lower seats. - There should be a designated rideshare pickup area. That was a challenge for him. - Hornets lost to the Suns but they played a good game and at least we had a good outing.

    Awesome game

by Cyndi on 3/13/24Spectrum Center - Charlotte

It was a lot of fun being at the 'BeeHive"to watch and celebrate the Hornet's win against New Jersey. The arena is of great size such that even when you are in the higher seats you are able to enjoy the game experience. The atmosphere was enjoyable for my family of 4. I highly recommend attending at least one game.

Good game, Loud, Concessions need better planning

by Experienced event attendee on 3/12/24Spectrum Center - Charlotte

Parking was easy with a 12 deck garage across the street. Entering was a breeze. Seats were easy to find. The game was good. The audio though is loud and their on purpose echoing, double echos so it sounds like a bunch of loud noise. Concession Menu boards have tiny lettering..needs a bigger font with rolling slides that have pictures This building has little to zero information on Concessions food ingredients. If you have a gluten allergy, good luck, vegetarian, good luck.. We walked both levels and asked the guest experience counters, they gave us a 6 week old screenshot of a text that said…we have salads and maybe gluten free buns here and here. Nope, no one had it. They had 6 weeks from that original text to provide their staff with a list of solutions…nope. That turned the event to a near zero for the member of our group with an allergy. It’s not hard to accommodate vegetarian or gluten free in concessions food. I got cold fries. The burger was alright. Big money for a souvenir cup, but no refills. Time to look for a new F&B partner. One who knows how to plan a menu. Their provider services many venues in this region, they should be better. I’m not a grumpy spectator, I worked in 3 NHL Arenas, 2 as Concessions Manager, a football stadium, 2 ballparks and 3 mid size arenas. I speak from knowledge and experience. Plan ahead, maybe eat elsewhere before you go, at lease until they catch on and make it better.

    Impressive

by Jtdisneymom on 3/4/24Spectrum Center - Charlotte

Friendly staff upon entry. Super clean facilities…the bathroom attendant was working proactively each time I went in. The game itself was fun with giveaways and entertainment throughout . It never disappoints. Food was delicious and easy to order (despite being very expensive). We highly recommend.

    Hornets Have Given Up

by Daddio on 3/3/24Spectrum Center - Charlotte

Aside from everything costing an arm and a leg it was a lackluster game. My son is a Bucks fan which is the only reason we went to the game.
