Decent show, but certainly not the best version I've seen of this classic holiday performance. Performers themselves were good, but I expected more of the production quality. No live orchestra, but rather prerecorded music. Strong start to show, but weakened near the end.
My children (and myself) soon lost interest until the very end of the show when all the performers got back onstage. Individual dances 70% through the show needed more crafting. This performance was best with all the performers onstage simultaneously to keep the viewer intrigued. Once it got done to just individuals it seemed to slow the pacing of the whole performance.
Backdrops were nicely painted, but the overall staging need more visual depth to it. It's always about the details and presentation with any show. Better lighting to add more visual interest would've helped.
Having seen this in different cities throughout the years I thought the Charleston Performing Arts version was the weakest yet. Not to be to critical, but for the cost of tickets ($40 average regardless of age) I didn't think it validated the pricing, especially considering that 2 of my 4 tickets were for small children. At that price i had hope the production quality would have been better. The children's theater performance in Florida was considerably less expensive, but far more entertaining.
Nice to see it again, but doubt I would watch this theater's version of it next year.
