    Delightful!

by Brooklynballetfan on 4/28/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

This was a first experience with ballet for my 7 year old son and he loved it. The stories and costumes were charming, the pieces were just the right lenghth and the audience participation at intermission was informative and a good break.

    Perfect for children

by DotingGrandmother on 4/26/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

Someone finally got it right. It was without a doubt one of the most enjoyable hours I have ever spent in a performance with my 4 year old grand daughter. The venue is just the right size, the costumes and dance were fantastic-perfectly timed for a young person's attention span and the woman (apologies about her name) who led the audience in some dance moves was clear and fun and totally related.

    Very nicely done!

by lmknyc on 4/26/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

Although, this show was geared for children, it was very professional and well choreographed allowing parents to equally enjoy it as much as their children did. The dancers, length of show, music and costumes were a perfect match for young children. As if that wasn't enough to keep them engaged, the artistic director, further entertained them by getting them to move around and understand "the magic of dance" explaining that "ballet is a way of telling a story using music and dance instead of words".

Carnival of the Animals and Firebird

by OMTSD on 4/26/10French Institute/Florence Gould Hall - New York

What a lovely way to spend our Sunday morning! The theater was the perfect size for little ones and the music, costumes and dancing kept my 4 year old competely engaged. The children received a thoughtful bag with a crayon, a bookmark and a Firebird red feather when we arrived, and between performances the Artistic Director spent time with the children describing the importance of the music, teaching them a few ballet steps and giving them the job of waving their feathers to protect the prince in the next performance. The only criticism I have was they included the story line for the Carnival of the Animals in the program, but not the Firebird so during the 2nd performance I was unable to answer many of the questions my son was asking. If you don't know the story I would recommend going on line to brush up before the show.
