I took three college bound young scholars to the 2014 Big Apple Classic. When I purchased the tickets, I figured only they would have fun and get some sort of benefit from the experience. I am happy to say I did as well. I'm not usually a fan of college basketball but both games were "on the edge of my seat" exciting. It was so good, I didn't know which team to root for. My son who's a ball player really got into it. Both girls I brought really enjoyed the bands and he cheerleaders. Being a black Greek, I really enjoyed the step show. My only one complaint would be the absence of more colleges/universities. There were not 20+ HBCU's as advertised. Sadly, this was the prime reason for attending this event so I was pretty disappointed.
Enjoyed the games as well as the bands! The step step show was Ok.
The talent that once was at HBCU schools in now at the big money programs, North, South, East and West. Out of 4 teams there was not a signle stand-out player on any team, even adjusted for this level of competition.
It has been a long time since I have attended a college basketball game. This time was special because it was on my home turf and it was HBCU. The "drumlines" were awesome and the step shows bought back college memories.
It was nice to enjoy watching my alma mata and having my son be a part of the experience!
I enjoyed the big apple games and halftime show . It is so motivating for minority youth to see other minority youth doing positive things.
Had a great time, the environment was awesome, half time show was cool, the last game went into OT. Couldn't ask for anything more.
This was my second time at this event. Being at the Barclay Center was much more enjoyable. Comfortable seats, accessible consession stands and bathrooms. I event noticed an area if needed to charge my phone. The show was good. The two basketball games were wonderful especially the game between Howard and Delaware. That game kept you on your toes. I would recommend this event to everyone. And I would attend next year.
