About

Belle and Sebastian are a Glaswegian indie band, known for their wistful, intellectual lyrics and melodic style and often compared to musicians such as Nick Drake and bands such as The Smiths. Many believe that they are the definitive sound of modern indie folk in Scotland. They formed in 1996, taking their name from the French children's book, Belle et Sbastien. Their sound is considered to be unusual and distinctive, and it has inspired a loyal following, although the band has never sought widespread commercial success and has in fact often shunned excess media coverage.

Originally signed to Jeepster Records, the band released a number of albums before signing with Rough Trade Records in the UK and Matador Records in the US. Their discography includes the studio albums Tigermilk, famous for being recorded in only three days, and If You're Feeling Sinister. They were both released in 1996, with the well known Boy with the Arab Strap released in 1998, Storytelling in 2002, The Life Pursuit in 2006, and Belle and Sebastian Write About Love in 2010. The band have also appeared on various compilation albums and live albums.

The band has received a number of award nominations, including the BRIT Awards' Best Newcomer, an Ivor Novello and the Mercury Music Prize. They also hosted their own music festival, the Bowlie Weekender, and were voted the Greatest Scottish Band by The List in 2005. Their music has appeared in a range of films, and they have toured throughout the UK, Europe and America. One particularly notable show was at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in front of a sell-out crowd of 18,000. Band members also worked to compile a CD collection of fresh children's songs along with a range of artists, including the Flaming Lips and Franz Ferdinand in 2006.

    Our second time in Anthem

by Ava on 5/5/24The Anthem - Washington

Awesome show. Loved to get paper tickets as we can save them for display of the shows we had seen over the last 25 years (the last Belle and Sebastian show we saw was in 2002 in 9:30 club). Really appreciated that Anthem had cups of free water available for anyone. Also the food we got was very good, I think it was steamed buns with pork belly.

    Brooklyn Paramount Rocks!

by PerryParker on 5/4/24Brooklyn Paramount - Brooklyn

Went to the Brooklyn Paramount for the first time to see my beloved Belle and Sebastian. What a beautiful new venue! A great place to see a show, all the staff was super-nice, I loved the selection of whiskeys at the bar. Just minutes from Manhattan. Can’t wait to go back there!

    Meh

by NJ on 5/2/24History - Toronto

Solid venue, suboptimal performance. Or maybe I'm just not a fan of the band as much as I was 20 yrs ago 🤷🏿‍♂️

Very interesting and entertaining. The backscreen with customized background videos for every song was a bonus, and enhanced the experience. Loved the fun banter with the audience - fun show

    the Orpheum sucks

by MarkAF on 4/30/24Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - Boston

Belle and Sebastian were wonderful, amazing -- but the venue was such a bummer it was a distraction. Bands like this need to be in a hall where we can dance, not someplace that is so uncomfortable, too crowded, poor sight lines. Never go to the Orpheum!

A Show of Deep Dives and Rare Beauty

by JBr on 4/30/24Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - Boston

I've seen Belle and Sebastian at least 8 times (I've lost count), and I felt pretty sure that I knew what I would hear. There would be a good number of tracks from the latest album, Late Developers, and then the chestnuts that they always play (I'm a Cuckoo, The Boy with the Arab Strap, and Judy and the Dream of Horses) and some surprises. I had not looked at any setlists before this show because I like to be surprised, or at least validated in what I think they will play. WELL, was I wrong. Yes, we got Piazza, New York Catcher and Arab Strap, but we also got some of my favorite songs, most especially Stars of Track and Field, Mayfly, and Dear Catastrophe Waitress. I'm not going to risk spoiling future shows for anyone; I'm just saying that people should go see them on this tour! The band was tight, the voices soared, and the mood was infectious. For me, it was their best show in years. I was grinning ear to ear the entire night. I didn't think any band but Sparks could make me this happy.

    Really corny and disappointing

by Liz on 4/30/24Orpheum Theatre presented by Citizens - Boston

The projections completely ruined the show. Why were they necessary? It made the whole performance hokey and embarrassing. Please never do this again.
