    A Perfect Show

by Betsysp on 12/29/10Progress Energy Center Kennedy Theatre - Raleigh

Art Tatum: Piano Starts Here was an amazing combination of a well-scripted story, perfect staging, beautiful music, and an incredible performance by Trevor Johnson. For the sake of music lovers and theater-goers, I hope the show will travel to other cities.

    Art Tatum: Piano Starts Here

by GrangerMo on 12/10/10Progress Energy Center Kennedy Theatre - Raleigh

The Zenph sound is incredible; it really is Art Tatum playing. Though there is nothing that can make up for the actual person being there, this comes close. Trevor Jackson does a masterful job of carrying the one-man story-telling format. This play introduces a new generation to a musician who should never be forgotten. It was engaging, often amusing and sometimes poignant. If you get there early (general seating) and snag a seat at one of the tables, you will be offered beer and Coca Cola out of small green bottles.

    This is an amazing experience!

by HolleranP on 10/21/10Kennedy Theater - Raleigh

I saw this show when it ran at The World Famous Apollo Theater in Harlem NY. It is an amazing one man show about Jazz, Harlem and America in the just before integration and civil rights began. On top of an interesting, funny and thought provoking plot there are the songs of piano genius Art Tatum reperformed live. The music will take your breath away and the play will make you laugh and think. I saw it on a Sunday matinee and the line event around the block on 125th street. YOU MUST SEE THIS SHOW.
