    LOVE YOU HERSHEY!!!

by Imchar on 4/19/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

This young man is absolutely incredible. His talents surpass anyone I have seen, other than Barbra Streisand! This show could have been totally boring, and when he announced what he was writing during the Leonard Bernstein performance last year, I thought "How Weird!" He pulled it off. The story was enthralling, the orchestra played like s full symphony of musicians, his intertwining of facts was mesmerizing, and my friend and I totally loved this show. BRAVO! Saw the next show while in Westwood, CA, and I vowed if it came to Chicago, I would return to see it again. Have tickets for Sunday 4/21, and hope Hershey is in the audience cheering her on.

Another spectacular Felder program. We have never been disappointed with Felder's work. Every program has not only been thoroughly researched and performed but filled with little known facts about the character.

    Moving performance well assembled

by Nimimi on 4/15/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

It was wonderful to see how Mr. Felder brought various components of the final moments into play early on. His introduction of minstrels, Stephen Foster, John Wilkes Booth all seemed at first like disparate elements ... until he came to the very sad conclusion. Not a spoiler; we all know the ending to the story of President Lincoln, and this story culminates in that great American tragedy. Mr. Felder also takes the time at the conclusion of his program to talk to the audience about some of the interesting experiences he has had in the exploration of the material for the performance as well as some interesting connections he has encountered as the performances continue. Although we missed hearing his piano work, this was a lovely musically-enhanced recount of that fateful day in April, 1865.

    historically told and heartfelt

by Katielen on 4/15/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

I have adored Hershey Felder in all his works, portraying beautiful lives and untold stories that we all should learn and hear. I will say that this was different from his works. Always superb in his acting he showed us different talent - a new Hershey. The play overall is delicate in its tale and precise in historical event. Do know that it is quite sad... very sad... and it was rare to find myself smiling in the audience. It is without fail that Hershey can draw an audience in so deeply - that each character he plays is believeable. Well done performance... it just could have had a bit more of lightness from within. But if this was Hershey's goal, to have us walk away in wonderment and respect for this heroin, then he accomlished it greatly.

    An American Story

Mr. Felder, always engaging. A fleeting 90 minute performance. Full of research and little known fact brings realism to his character portrayal.

    An American Story

by Fredmertz2 on 4/9/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Felder's creativity and attention to historic detail make An American Story an outstanding original musical work. His interweaving of the various elements (music, history, and drama) of this historical period paint a broad picture of events of the day as well as provide interesting details about Lincoln during the Civil War years. A show worth seeing! Highly recommend it!

    Riveting Performance

by patycake on 4/1/13Royal George Theatre - Chicago

Ninety minutes can be a long time to sustain one's attention. It is even harder for a performer of a one-man show. Hershey Felder and the Orchestra supporting him offered an amazing ninety minutes of extraordinary US history telling Dr. Leale's story with such engaging detail that the audience became mesmerized and time just stopped. To be sure, the story itself is stunning, but I doubt that few know it's detail and this production does it justice. I wish all school children studying Lincoln could experience this show as it reveals so much about our country's history and the extraordinary people who helped our nation grow.
