AMAZING GRACE is a world premiere musical based on the awe-inspiring true story behind the world’s most beloved song. A captivating tale of romance, rebellion and redemption, this radiant production follows one man whose incredible journey ignited a historic wave of change.
John Newton (Tony Award nominee Josh Young), a willful and musically talented young Englishman, faces a future as uncertain as the turning tide. Coming of age as Britain sits atop an international empire of slavery, he finds himself torn between following in the footsteps of father — a slave trader — and embracing the more compassionate views of his childhood sweetheart. But when a perilous voyage on the high seas finds John in his darkest hour, a transformative moment of self-reckoning inspires a blazing anthem of hope that will finally guide him home.
Brimming with emotion and adventure, AMAZING GRACE is an unforgettable musical saga that captures the spirit of history’s sweetest and most powerful sound: freedom.
Wonderful job by cast, very moving story how God can change our hearts!
Go see it if possible……..music is awe-inspiring……..the singers Broadway ready! The depth and power of the voices, incredible! NY here they come, hopefully! This show would be SUCH a welcome addition to Broadway - something with TRUE depth.
It was fabulous!!!!! I was moved to tears a number of times!
Great story, beautiful voices. Loved the stage & costuming. The shipwreck scene was incredible.
AMAZING!!!! Great music, great singing, great costumes, great scenery, great story, great touch of history and great touch of religion.
We have been to many of the best musicals that Chicago has had to offer in the last 13 years and Amazing Grace ranks at the top. From the actors to the storyline to the music and special effects there was golden thread of excellence.
Beautiful singing by a talented cast. Entertaining and enjoyable.
Great story, great cast, great music. How could anyone keep tears from flowing at the close? Very well done. Break a leg on Braodway and hurry back to the Windy City!
I loved Amazing Grace for its beautiful songs, clever sets and staging, as well as extremely talented actors/singers. John Newton was an unknown to me and I found his story fascinating. The play delivered his story in a respectful manner to all involved. The audience gave a standing ovation and all joined in singing "Amazing Grace" at the end of the performance. Many were moved to tears.
Musicals aren't something we do often but when my birthday rolled around this year it just seemed like the thing to do and we were NOT disappointed. Amazing Grace was just that....Amazing!
Amazing!!! Amazing!!! Amazing!!! A must see show!!
I went to Amazing Grace because a friend raved about it and told me I had to go. At the first song I was hooked. It was a great story, great music, a fantastic cast, and a brilliant set. I would love to see it again.
Excellent performance! Was a bit skeptical after newspaper reviews but would recommend it. The singing was great - Josh and Chuck especially but many good performances. Go see it if you can. John Newton was a bad boy though so even though it was touted as a faith based musical, it was mostly about the bad boy he was.
Bathroom time during iintermission was way to short.
The musical was very moving and inspirational, exploring universal experiences of love, betrayal, forgiveness, and conversion. I was drawn in at every moment. The lead character has a voice that is sheer gift!
What a well presented story behind the hymn, Amazing Grace! It told the story of a highly volatile subject in English and American history and spared no details of the slave trade. The actors were incredible and we enjoyed the music. Here's hoping it makes it way to Broadway since it carries an incredible message. Only unfortunate thing was there is no memorable song that sticks in your mind except the hymn, Amazing Grace. We attended on closing day and the end of the play the audience sang the hymn along with the cast to a standing ovation. Would see it again and again!!!
WAS A GREAT PERFORMANCE AND THE ACTORS WERE OUTSTANDING.
I can't remember going to a musical where the voices were so "amazing"! The background and scenic background was tremendous. All the actors were tremendous! I recommend this to every and anyone.
All I can say is wow! I was blown away by the story, the acting, the music, and the beautiful portrayal of an amazing journey.
Show was exceptional. Ticketmaster fee and ordering online is too challenging
