Afrocubism
by pepper567 on 7/15/11Oregon Zoo - PortlandWe went to an open air concert of the band. The band is excellent and should not be missed! What a great blending of African and Cuban artists! Wow!

AfroCubism has a completely unique sound. They blend Latin and African rhythms in a way that gets my feet moving!
It just wasn't as lively as I expected. People were just getting warmed up and relaxed, starting to dance, and they took a 20 minute break! Kids had a good time, though.
The music was great, the weather perfect and we had a wonderful time - but it felt like a VERY short concert and was over in just two hours with a 1/2 hour intermission part way through. I'm not sure if it was because of the venue or because of the band, but for what we paid for our tickets it felt like we should have had more of a show. I probably wouldn't have been as annoyed if the drinks didn't close an hour before the end of the show (meaning even at intermission I was already too late to get myself a second drink). I might go back to a zoo concert on a cheap ticket night, but I won't pay more than $10 to do so since the shows don't last very long. If this band played a real show at another venue I'd probably recommend it to a friend, but not if it's just an 1-1/2 of actual time on stage again.
