Strong piano-driven pop, heartfelt lyrics, and enchanting vocals have fueled the explosive success of indie pop duo A Great Big World. Having met at New York University, Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino collaborated on Axel’s independent solo album, Vaccarino co-writing the entire album with Axel. As support grew, the duo toured with acts such as Five For Fighting, Ingrid Michaelson, and Glee’s Matthew Morrison. In 2012, Axel and Vaccarino officially re-formed as A Great Big World, and through a fan-supported Kickstarter campaign, the duo released a six-track EP. Their music has been featured on The Amazing Race, Good Morning America, MTV, ESPN, and Fox’s hit TV series Glee as a cast performance of “This Is the New Year.” After signing to Epic Records in April 2013, their single “Say Something” was featured on Fox’s dancing reality competition So You Think You Can Dance. After hearing the song, pop star Christina Aguilera reached out to Axel and Vaccarino and a re-recorded duet of “Say Something” was released in November 2013. After the premier live performance on NBC’s The Voice, in which Aguilera is a celebrity coach, “Say Something” debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 and skyrocketed to No. 1 on the iTunes chart. Ticket buyers have flocked to A Great Big World’s concerts with fans praising their whimsical twist on pop music and sincere camaraderie between the duo. Their full-length album Is There Anybody Out There is scheduled for release in January 2014.
