About

It says all you need to know about Buddy Guy that the music genre that he has come to embody, the Chicago Blues, could never hope to contain him. In the more than 55 years since the Louisiana moved to Chicago and embarked on one of the most influential careers a guitarist could ever hope for (just ask Eric Clapton), Guy is still pushing the envelope of his artistry. But what is remarkable about this Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer is that he isn't sacrificing an iota of his relevancy while doing so. Guy proves it not just in concerts that are as high energy now as they were when he was heralding a rock guitar revolution in the 1960's, but also on the charts. His 2010 musical autobiography-of-sorts Living Proof was the blues legend's highest carting record to date, while his 2013 double disk follow up Rhythm and Blues was #1 on the Blues chart and showed 77-year-old to be every bit the firecracker as guest stars Kid Rock and Arrowsmith. If his last few decades have proven anything, it's that a ticket to a Buddy Guy concert isn't simply a tour through blues history, but an opportunity to see a genre's foremost practitioner still at the top of his game, with as much to say as ever has.

    Badass Blues

by T-Bone on 5/14/24Toyota Oakdale Theatre - Wallingford

Buddy did not disappoint. He can still bring it. A great mix of his classic tunes and blues staples from other legends. Loved his story telling and genuine personality. And his voice is still strong. A great concert experience.

    What a showman!!

by Gary G on 5/14/24Toyota Oakdale Theatre - Wallingford

Buddy Guy’s showmanship was on full display at the Toyota Oakdale in Wallingford on Saturday night. His blazing electric blues guitar playing includes lightening fast note flurries and wide string bends that are held for expression. His soulful voice was as smooth as ever and songs were often delivered in an intimate conversational style which connected so well with the audience. My favorite was Skin Deep. His guitar playing was rivaled by several – Ric Hall of his band, Buddy’s son Greg featured in a duet with Buddy, and a Brazilian American (last name Martinez) who played very creative, original funky and bluesy music as part of a trio opening act. Buddy’s band played about a dozen songs over about 75 minutes – not bad for an 87 year old!

    Buddy Guy May 11

by SteveB54 on 5/14/24Toyota Oakdale Theatre - Wallingford

He was very entertaining and his music is phenomenal! Prices were a little steep but that I guess is to be expected. Some of the people on our section were a little on the rude side…(standing up and blocking our view even when asked to sit down) And we didn’t care for the pot smoking going on around us also 😞 But overall we really enjoyed the show.

    The show was great

by Sandman on 5/14/24Toyota Oakdale Theatre - Wallingford

My good experience will forever be overshadowed by the mindnumbing technical nightmare of Ticketmaster, with their cell phone exclusivity and website labyrinth quagmire. I am swearing off of all further concerts and Ticketmaster. It was truly a traumatic experience. What on earth were you thinking?

What a legend! At 88 years old, Buddy still rocked the house the way he always does.
