Better to just watch the movie.

    by Bowllover949 on 11/14/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I understand the need to spice things up with some guest starring actors... but this show was pretty ridiculous, and annoying. It’s a great movie and deserves to be shown all the way thru with no love acts stopping it every 5 minutes...

Not worth the price of the tickets

    by S0L0Rider on 11/10/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Fam and I were really excited for this event, because were Roald Dahl fans. It did not meet our expectations. Even with the big star lineup, you could tell the crowd was not into it. Weird Al got the biggest cheers. All in all the show could have been so much better. We were expecting a performance like the Simpsons 25th Anniversary, now that was a show. I would not recommend it unless you want to shell out $75 a ticket (in the nose bleeds) to go watch a movie with what felt like a thrown together show. I have to say the pianist at the beginning of the show was my favorite.

Felt rushed, uncoordinated and poorly produced

by AholeMcGee on 11/9/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Production quality was not great. Lots of sound issues, delays, and errors. Also, the artist singing was broadcasted on 5 screens as opposed to on the large main screen and the movie aired on the remaining 4. It seemed very juvenile in its production (almost like a high school production). Loved weird Al and John stamos, though! We’ve seen nightmare before Christmas and little mermaid in the same type of production at the bowl and they were amazing so we know it can be done well.

Good concept, not so good execution

    by GLS0418 on 11/8/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

As a lover of the Willy Wonka movie, I was really excited for this event. I was slightly disappointed in the production. While the concept was really intriguing, for me it did not flow. The stopping the movie for live singing performances was choppy. I enjoyed the singing (for the most part), but didn't feel the night captured the magic of the original movie.

    Terrible Concept

by LUckyflyfulfylfluchkxykxg on 11/7/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

If I had known that this was a showing of the old Gene Wilder film, interrupted every few minutes with a live “song” or dance, I would not have bought tickets for this show at any price. The classic movie was charming, but the live performances were annoying more than anything else. We left at intermission.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was amazing!

by MeanSmurf on 11/7/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

My daughter and I attended this event and really enjoyed it. She is a big fan of Stranger Things so that made it even better. It was so much fun to see this classic movie and everything they added in and we look forward to more of these types of events in the future.

    Wow. What a disaster!?!?!?

by RadThad on 11/7/17Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I am speechless. What could have been an incredible celebration of a timeless and amazing classic, was a jumbled, unrehearsed disaster. I can't believe I spent the amount of money on it that I did. My friend that was in the box with us put it best, "It's like they just came up with the idea and put it all together in 48 hours". The singers sounded terrible, the microphones kept giving performers problems, there were awkward delays every time they stopped the movie and went into another performance, and these breaks added nothing to the experience, I assure you. It was all so tragically bizarre. The movie and Gene Wilder's performance are SO great, and the live music score by Devotchka and the orchestra was a joy to behold in this historic and beautiful venue, but all of these B list actors trying to sing and somehow bring the classic more to life just failed miserably. It just was such a head scratcher. If the tickets had been $30 and at a local theatre or a high school, maybe it would have been forgivable, but it you are charging $250 for garden box seats, you have a responsibility to bring together a watchable product and this was DEFINITELY NOT that. At least I can say I will never forget it. Thank God we were able to sneak in wine.
