About

Since premiering at Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre in 2003, WICKED has been mesmerizing audiences and breaking records, becoming the second highest-grossing musical in Broadway history with over $1.4 billion in tickets sold. Composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz and book writer Winnie Holzman’s magical “untold true story of the Witches of Oz” has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards — winning three — including Idina Menzel for Best Actress in a Musical as heroine Elphaba. With a captivating score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity” and “For Good,” the WICKED cast album won Best Musical Show Album at the 47th Grammy Awards, with Time magazine cheering, “If every musical had a brain, a heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.” In addition to Menzel, the star-studded original cast included Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, Norbert Leo Butz as Fiyero, Joel Grey as the Wizard, Carole Shelley as Madame Morrible, Christopher Fitzgerald as Boq, Michelle Federer as Nessarose, and William Youmans as Doctor Dillamond. WICKED is also the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history.

Wicked is a must see for anyone in New York City. Iconic stage show that brings back wonderful childhood memories of watching the Wizard of Oz. A great combination of well placed comedy and spectacular musical numbers. This is a show that can be enjoyed by all family members. I’ve seen it 3 times and see something new every time.

    Wow!

by Rob on 3/3/20Gershwin Theatre - New York

From the moment the lights go down to the curtain call, this musical was beautifully done and captivating! The performances were fantastic and they kept you interested in the story and invested in the characters. What a neat take on giving a different narrative on the wizard of oz from the witches perspective. Would reccomend to anyone and everyone!

    Excellent Performance

    by J. M. on 2/29/20Gershwin Theatre - New York

We chose what we thought were front row rear mezzanine (right) seats which turned out to be third row left. They were Row A but not on the rail. The show got off on time and the performances were flawless and the costumes and sets were stunning. We have seen “Wicked” a few times and took our teenage grandkids this time. They enjoyed it but not nearly as much as we did! The only complaint, which can’t be fixed, is that we had a large group of young school kids behind us who were adorable but not well chaperoned or trained on how to behave in a theater. Our seats were kicked throughout which was annoying but they were having a good time so we ignored it. Overall, terrific performances in the gorgeous Gershwin Theater.

    Second time, lost a little

by Munchkin on 2/28/20Gershwin Theatre - New York

This was my second time seeing the show. The first time we had balcony seats which worked out great. The second time we brought the kids and thought we would do the orchestra seating ... bad move! If you do not get close up orchestra seating you will be under the balcony and could risk not seeing large portions of the stage. Unfortunately, the limited view caused me to enjoy the show less than I remember liking it the first time. Perhaps lightning does not strike the same place twice.
