    Real dancing

by David on 1/21/20Toyota Center Kennewick - Kennewick

Having girls that have danced in the ballet for over 20 years I have seen a lot of ballets. My biggest complaint has always been that ballet tends to be more mechanical than dancing to the music. This show put a real smile on my face as I watched beauty unfold by dancing to music. The final dance between the couple was great!

    Fantastic performance

by NeNe on 1/16/20Toyota Center Kennewick - Kennewick

The performers in this musical were fantastic! The acting, singing and dancing were of the quality one would normally see on Broadway. We were so glad we drove through the snow and ice to come. There are some issues with the venue, however. First of all it was very cold, so bring a coat or jacket. We sat in the third row on the floor and visibility would be improved so much if they would offset the chairs so you weren't sitting directly behind someone, but could be looking at the space between the two people in front of you. This seems like it would be very easy to implement, but has never been done, even though there have been requests.

    Great Show

    by D. M. on 1/16/20Toyota Center Kennewick - Kennewick

Loved the music, singing and dancing. The Toyota Center in Kennewick is a good place for stage productions; more musicals please.

We had a wonderful time and greatly enjoyed the performance. It was like attending a Broadway musical in the Kennewick!

Not worth it in San Diego!

by Anonymous on 9/16/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

We alternated between yawning and laughing and then left at intermission. Nothing close to what we experienced in New York.

    Great musical

by SOcalHappy1 on 9/13/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

My friend and I both thought this was a great musical. The acting, singing, and storyline were excellent, the sets were fantastic, our seats in center orchestra were awesome. If I had to pick on something it would be the dancing. Some of the actors were better dancers than others, and I wasn't expecting any dancing at all, but this was definitely a musical first, with ok to good dancing.

    An American in Paris

by SongandDancefan on 9/12/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

It might help that I am a dedicated Gershwin fan, but I thought this show was amazing. I am a senior citizen and have seen my share of musicals over the years, and I strongly feel that this was one of the best shows I've seen. From the score, to the dialogue, to the choreography, to the sets, to the superb performances of all leads (as well as chorus), the matinee performance I saw on September 9 was five stars. Terrific dancing and great voices, as well as clearly spoken words (so you could hear and appreciate the sometimes rapid-fire funny bits), was really appreciated. The only downside is the venue........the Civic badly needs a significant upgrade. But the show was so good, I didn't care! Thank you to all the performers and crew who made my Saturday afternoon special:)

    Old time musical

by TheaterJunkie123 on 9/12/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

An American in Paris was a grand old time musical. Lots of dancing, beautiful costumes, wonderfully talented performers. There aren't many like this out there anymore.

Nice Show, But Didn't Live Up to Hype

by JRsanD on 9/11/17San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

After having read some glowing reviews of this new musical and loving the theater, we bought tickets for a Friday night. I want to preface by saying that we enjoyed the show, as we love attending productions at the Civic Theater and the dancing was incredible. However, we must be honest that we both left feeling somewhat disappointed by the lack of plot and seemingly weak characters. The lead female character Lise is the love interest of three different men, and there is literally no explanation why; viewers are left to assume that they all simply glance at her and fall in love and want to be with her forever, without any hint of her personality. I suppose that somewhat makes sense for a show based on a 1960s movie. Nothing against the actress, who did a beautiful job, but the character of Lise was incredibly boring and it was just altogether baffling why there was such a fuss over her...and that was the whole plot of the play. We also had not realized that this show had so much ballet. Particularly in Act II, there was so much ballet dancing to instrumental music and not nearly as much dialogue or singing; it sometimes felt as though we were attending a modern ballet. The dancing was incredibly good, but if you're not super into ballet, it was a bit boring at times. Again, this is nothing against the performers, who were all very talented. All in all, we enjoyed our night out to the theater, but this is not a show we would feel the need to see again.
