Bright Star is an original musical play with a storyline that will pull you in and won’t let you go till the very end. Shubert has excellent acoustics and the singing is amazing. Don’t miss it.

by MfK1A on 5/2/18Shubert Theatre - New HavenThough I had read the reviews, and have seen other Steve Martin stage productions, I didn't quite know what to expect. It was absolutely wonderful. The person who originally recommended it to me said it was "corny," but terrific. I suppose so. But I love "The Music Man," so I love corny. This was much, much more involved than "The Music Man," and quite a commentary on its time and place. The sets are minimal, but very effective, and the music...well, it is just amazing. If you like bluegrass, you'll love this. And if you don't know you love bluegrass, you'll probably come out loving it. The touring cast, headed by Audrey Caldwell, was superb. Her voice alone is worth the ticket price, but everyone in the cast was just amazing. My wife absolutely loved it, as did I. We came up from Virginia, just for the weekend, just to catch this. It was my birthday present to her, and included a round-trip Amtrak ride, and hotel stay. Needless to say, it was a chunk of money, but worth it at twice the price.

by mcs823 on 5/2/18Shubert Theatre - New HavenI was fortunate enough to see Bright Star in New Haven, and have recommended it to friends in Charlotte. But it was SO well-performed that I'm terribly sorry to have seen it only once, and feel it would have a warm reception in many other cities if people knew what a feel-good show it is. The bluegrass musicians and the minimalist but effective staging all added to the coherence of this Appalachian story, and the acting was top-notch. We especially loved Henry Gottfried as Billy Cane, and will hope to see him again in this or in other productions on tour or on Broadway -- clearly a talent to watch for!

by KBWHCT on 5/1/18Shubert Theatre - New HavenI must admit for the first 15-20 minutes I was a little lost. Then the characters started coming together and I got sucked in. The end of the first act I just wanted to yell out loud. The emotions are all over the place. The play was great overall. The actors are also great, although we had a change in an actress halfway through.

by thewitchesbroom on 5/1/18Shubert Theatre - New HavenRecently I went to see Bright Star at the Shubert Theater in New Haven CT. The show was excellent and the lead was exceptional. The story was a bit corny and predictable but the sets and actors made it all worth while.
