With a catalog of songs that reaches back 50 years, Van Morrison always delivers a concert that’s impossible to predict for his many ticket buyers. The iconic Northern Ireland native has, of course, recorded classic albums like Moondance and Astral Weeks, and timeless singles like "Brown Eyed Girl," "Domino," and "Wild Night." But he's released well over 30 albums during the course of his career, building a repertoire that veers from Celtic music to folk to blues to covers of standards. His focus on any given night could switch on the dime as he follows his muse wherever it takes him. From Madison Square Garden to Arizona Federal Theatre, fans fill seats to see Van Morrison on tour because the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is a master of making his own whatever genre or song he tackles. His unmistakable voice is a reedy and expressive growl, and his delivery -- which is constantly evolving -- conjures elements of jazz, blues and gospel. His latest album, 2012's Born to Sing: No Plan B, marked his first batch of original songs in five years and was hailed by many critics as recalling his much-heralded recordings of the late '60s and early '70s. It peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Van Morrison’s fourth show in a week in the SF Bay Area was better than expected in terms of voice quality. He really sounded great and every song was consistently well performed by his band and back-up singer. It was a bit of a disappointment that he didn’t perform a number of his hits, but I really enjoyed the songs that he did. It’s too bad that he has ZERO personality. He comes out, sings every song without breaks in between, and never says a word to the audience except to introduce the band. He even enters and exits the show mid-song to avoid a Hello or Goodnight. Would go again!
Fox theater was awesome but Van Morrison does NOT play any of his hits. Extremely disappointed in the show, and I spent $800 dollars on 2 tickets. Will never give him any of my money ever again!
I‘ve been a huge fan of Van Morrison for a long time but this was the first time seeing him live in concert and what a treat. I was astounded with Vans musical prowess. His voice and musicianship have not wavered, in fact I think he may be improving with age. Additionally, his band was fantastic. What a great group of super talented musicians, especially the back up vocals, (what a great voice)! I would love to see them all again.
First concert I've ever been to that started EARLY! Van walks onto stage 5 minutes early...wow. I've grown accustomed to having to wait for artists well beyond their announced start time so this was a shocker. Filled primarily with 50' 60's rock tunes interspersed witiih some of his own gems. The band was tight. Van sounded better than ever. LOVE the beautiful Fox Theatre in Oakland. A great experience.
Van Morrison sounded amazing. The band was amazing. The evening was a blast.
It was a good show, just dissapointed that he didnt play his oldies Brown eyed girl, domino, wild nights and There will be days like this! ya know the stuff we grew up on. Still a good show and a super good venue!
I wish I would have googled reviews of his shows before I bought tickets. He only performed ONE of his hits and his set list was 95% covers. More than that, he had no energy or enthusiasm- and did long band solos for almost every single song. He’s a legend, so he has a right to perform what/how he wants- I just wouldn’t have paid the amount I paid to see him perform covers with little enthusiasm.
I have been in Love with Van Morrison’s music since the first time I heard Moondance at age 16. I have seen and heard everything that is out there in electronic media, television, radio, etc… I am in love with his music, talent, and charisma when he’s on stage. The concert was only an hour and a half of him. For lack of better words his performance was boring. Besides brown eyed girl, not one of my favorite songs did he sing. I don’t know if Van wasn’t well, or he was upset the seats weren’t full, or if he just needed the $. All I know is I paid $500 for two tickets and left they’re thinking there’s no way that it’s over, he wouldn’t leave us leave without hearing the best of him. I believe everybody at that event should be reimbursed at least half of what they paid. Seeing Van Morrison in concert was one of the things on my bucket list to do, and I can’t express how letdown I feel!
He only played a few original Clarice songs, the rest were covers.
Fntastic show, Van played a lot of tracks from the new album, he belted them out ninety one after another with absolutely no delays, just full on entertainment. Van and the band were really tight, looked like three of the regular band members on Guitar, Drums & Bass + additional session artists on Piano, Sax & Vocals.
Van reintroduced a number of classic rock and jazz songs. He gave everything his Van style. His voice was as good as ever. Wish I could have bottled that show to listen again and again. Van did not disappoint.
The show was sold out but Van Morrison stared the show early and people were still waiting to get in. Apparently there were some issues with downloading tickets to the apple wallet. Although the Fox theater is a terrific venue, and the sound was excellent, beers and cocktails were outrageously expensive! Surprisingly there was no cover band and no intermission. Enjoyed the new music and bought the double album.
I am a huge, long time Van Morrison fan. He and his outstanding band were in top form performing classic rock and blues numbers from his recent albums along with some of his own compositions ("Enlightenment,""Have I told you that I love You,""Gloria"and "Moondance"-sung by a very good backup singer). I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I was surprised when the usher informed me that the show would be exactly an hour a half. I would have enjoyed an encore or two. The theatre was kind of cold and the good seats were quite expensive.
Venue great; plenty of songs. Very tight band and script. Would have liked more hits and more audience connection.
Van played mostly new material, some that I have never heard before. I found the songs beautiful and some emotionally touching. I like it that he is such a great artist, he doesn't have to rely on his "hits", .He's definitely still has it in him, although he is aging , like all of us. Don't wait, don't miss him!!
Don’t go see Van if you want to hear any music before 1980. He rarely performs the classic Van the Man numbers. If you enjoy. And later and more reflective work you shouldn’t be disappointed. But that means you need to know his catalog. Even if you don’t, his soulful sound still sinks into the heart of what it means to be human. Love, the great beyond, joy and sadness. COVID brought out the more cynical side and I’m waiting to see if he recovers from that because I miss the Van who gets the deep things in life.
The Friday night concert was unbelievable! We loved it so much we bought tickets for Saturday night and enjoyed the second show just as much!
I’m sorry to see all the bad reviews. The show was better than I imagined. I know people were upset he didn’t play all the old stuff. You can listen to that in your car or listen to your favorite oldies at home. Sir Van is a constantly changing evolving true artist so sharing his latest creations was a gift, Every one should appreciate experiencing the music when it’s fresh. So next time. Please look at him different. He’s an icon we were all lucky to witness in person. And please bring your happy feet..
Spent over $1500 ro fly in to Vegas to see Van Morrison at the Bakkt Theater. Disappointed doesnt accuratley portray what total $&#! show that was. No oldies even though the audience was yelling out requests. The band carried the show, if you were there to listen to back up singers and musicians. After 1 hr. 20 min. VAN walked offstage, came back 2 minutes later, sang halfbof GLORIA and left the stage and let his back up singers fingers. No encore, No thank you, and $70 for 2 cocktails. Yes. You rad that right. $168 per ticket and $35 per drink. Wish we wouldve gone to see GAGA! Ed Sheeran cancelled 40 minutes before showtime.
