Take a look into the Overlook at the US Open and 1968 Room
Founded in 1881, the US Open is one of the longest-running tennis tournaments in the world and the second oldest Grand Slam® tournament after Wimbledon. Richard Sears won the inaugural tournament (which was then called the U.S. National Championships) held at the Newport Casino in Newport, RI. In 1887 Ellen Hansel took home top honors in the first women's singles competition. The tournament found a new home when the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center opened in 1978, which has become a mecca for modern tennis fans.
Every year during the US Open, fans from around the world watch as players take to the courts in the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. In 2018, the facilities completed extensive renovations that transformed the grounds entirely, including the reconstruction of the Louis Armstrong and Grandstand Stadiums, as well as expanded hospitality offerings. The hardcourt is the stage and soul of this major event, creating an up-tempo style of play full of unpredictable spin shots that show off the dazzling physical and mental dexterity of the sport's greatest competitors.
Every year, the best of the best come to New York to compete in the US Open. As the players duke it out on the courts before thousands of spectators, the athletes and fans alike take in all that the city has to offer - from its history and architecture to culture and entertainment.
