Ugly Kid Joe on Tour

If you took the humor of a Saturday Night Live writer and combined it with the heavy metal style of bands like Black Sabbath, you'd get the good-time rock band Ugly Kid Joe. Their unique mix of satirical lyrics and heart-pumping melodies has produced hits that have endured for decades.

Ugly Kid Joe signed with Mercury Records in 1991 and released their first EP As Ugly As They Wanna Be that same year. The EP featured the hit single "Everything About You," which landed in the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100 and was featured in the movie Wayne's World. The EP sold over a million copies in the U.S. and was the first short-form LP to be certified multi-platinum.

The band released their first full-length album America's Least Wanted in 1992, and landed a spot opening for Ozzy Osbourne on his "No More Tears" tour.

America's Least Wanted includes an updated version of the single "Everything About You" that features a spoken intro from SNL cast member Julia Sweeny as the character Pat. The album also features a popular cover of Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle."

The band broke up in 1997 but reunited in 2010 and released the EP Stairway to Hell in 2012.

Ugly Kid Joe Live in Concert

Ugly Kid Joe's current lineup consists of Whitfield Crane (lead vocals), Klaus Eichstadt (guitar, backing vocals), Cordell Crockett (bass, backing vocals), Dave Fortman (guitar, backing vocals), and Zac Morris (drums, percussion).

The band was formed in 1989 in Palo Alto, California, by childhood friends Whitfield Crane and Klaus Eichstadt.

In the band's early years, they went through several name iterations including Overdrive and Suburban White Alcoholic Trash. In preparation for a one-night show opener for the Los Angeles glam-metal band Pretty Boy Floyd in Santa Barbara, they landed on the name Ugly Kid Joe as a parody of the main act. Pretty Boy Floyd ended up pulling out of the show, which was canceled, but the band kept the name.

When the band was dropped by Mercury Records, they formed an independent label, Evilution Records.

Great venue, town, and fantastic show!

Leesburg, VA. Great little town with shops, bars, and restaurant. A lot of history. Venue was great at Tally Ho Theatre. We will be back again. Pistols at Dawn were great and my teenage years came back to me with Ugly Kid Joe. Pictures and signatures made the night more special!

by ckm on 6/4/23Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

From the solid opening act, Pistols at Dawn, through the party atmosphere of Fozzy, and the superb headliner Ugly Kid Joe, this show had it all. Showmanship, solid tunes, and engaged audience, stellar sound, fun venue....it was great.

THE SHOW I'VE BEEN WAITING 31 YEARS FOR

by BIGJR on 6/4/23Center Stage Theater - Atlanta

An absolute great show i've never seen UKJ until Thursday night and man they did not disappoint. Pistols at Dawn were a great opening act they came with a lot of energy and played well, while i'm not too familiar with Fozzy's material i do know a couple of songs, the bad part was the sound guy was really overdriving the lead guitarist, and it made Chris Jericho's vocals almost unrecognizable.UKJ on the other hand the sound was crisp and precise and spot on they played all the hits and great audience interaction, it just sucks it took me 31 years to see them, hopefully it's not 31 before i see them again

    Ugly Kid Joe = Amazing

by Lenny on 5/31/23Tally Ho Theater - Leesburg

UKJ put on an unbelievable show. For a band that hasn’t toured the US in 27 years, they were outstanding. So tight. Whit’s vocals haven’t lost the slightest touch. I only wish the crowd was a little more appreciative of what they witnessed. Great smattering of the band’s catalog. I traveled 450 miles to see the show and I would do it again tomorrow.

    Worth the wait

by Dobrdoc on 5/31/23Tally Ho Theater - Leesburg

I’d give them more than 5 stars if I could. This was easily one of the best shows I’ve seen in a good while. They sound great and seem to be having a lot of fun. Worth waiting so many years to see them but I hope they tour the US again soon.
