UADA on Tour

Kerrang! recently named UADA one of the 50 best American metal bands of the past decade. The black metal quartet has been steadily amassing a worldwide cult following since the release of their debut album: 2016's Devoid of Light.

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, UADA's sound and aesthetic reflects the Pacific Northwest: foggy mountains, fern-infested woodlands, dark overcast, and the thunderous power of Mother Nature. UADA often appear wearing their trademark hooded cloaks, as if they're possessed by a secret deity who derives power from darkness.

UADA's sound is melodic and immersive, to the point of possession, which produces a calming effect for their fans. Their aesthetic includes gorgeously shot, cinematic depictions of blackened worlds filled with organic beauty and secret traditions. Their video for "Cult of a Dying Sun" has been viewed on YouTube nearly 2 million times.

UADA Live in Concert

UADA was formed in 2014 by singer/songwriter Jake Superchi in Portland, Oregon,  following the dissolution of his former band, Ceremonial Castings. Growing up near the border of  Washington and Oregon, Superchi found solitude in the fern-covered forests and nearby mountains -- meditating on the haunting contrast between heavy metal and nature.

With their band name derived from the Latin word for "haunted," Superchi views UADA as a force for introspection, reflection and dissection of the human condition.

"The negative side of humanity isn't hard to find, especially in the music industry," Superchi told Heaviest of Art in 2020, "but I use it as inspiration to empower my art rather than let it destroy it."

Emerging from the thriving black metal scene of the Pacific Northwest, UADA  has undergone several lineup changes, but their powerful, uncompromising aesthetic never diminished.

UADA has released three critically acclaimed full-length albums: Their debut, 2016's Devoid of Light, followed by Cult of a Dying Sun in 2018 and Djinn in 2020.
