    Bizarre Tricky performance

by Anonymous on 5/28/18Mezzanine - San Francisco

Tricky is an artist and I understand that he has a strange vision for his art and that it should be appreciated. However, it kind of sucks to pay for a ticket to a show in which you can barely see the artist (because I guess a dark stage is interesting usage of lighting) and there presumably is a lot of bad luck with microphones. To be fair, a lot of his new material is trash, but it was unfortunate that the old tracks were reduced from powerful duets to just the nice blond lady singing a solo backed by familiar music. There was such a lack of vocals from Tricky it was almost like a cover band was on stage. I obviously don't have any insider information, so I don't know if the technical issues were all the venue's fault or because Tricky is notoriously difficult to work with. Either way, it was a disappointing effort overall.

Tricky did a secret late night set!

by ViciousViolet on 5/23/18Mezzanine - San Francisco

Tricky sounded like the solid trip hop I love. Very atmospheric setting with a barely there purple glow. After a short concert, the best part was he came back out at Midnight and played a whole additional set with his new songs! My favorite moment of the night was the cover song of Doll Parts.

    Bad night for Tricky

by GotTricked on 5/19/18Mezzanine - San Francisco

I don’t know if there were technical issues because of the sound at the venue or the artist was under the influence of something, but it was a very bad show. The performance was disjointed and you could barely hear him perform. The band seemed out of sorts and kept Stopping the show. It’s one of the rare times in my entire life where if I could somehow get a refund for the show, I would.

    Mymusicishare

Short, two confusing sets, some said there was a third set , we left the venue when the artist left the second time without saying a word.

    Shame about the lighting @Tricky

by JSFNYC on 5/9/18Irving Plaza - New York

Performance was fine but the lighting was awful. Paid for VIP up in the balcony and other than the very occasional flash of the lights, you couldn't see the performance at all. Essentially paid to watch a bunch of vague silhouettes on stage.

    pure and raw

by xiansands on 5/6/18Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Tricky is one of a kind. Blown away by this performance, and the raw talent. A no frills show, just pure therapy!

    Tricky

Worst show I have ever seen. Tricky lip synced a good portion and played tracks off album. Best part was his back up singer.

    A master at work

by Itgoldstein on 11/1/16The Sinclair - Cambridge

Tricky is the physical embodiment of art. He is a poet that uses percussion, music and dance to express his heart. Never a great vocalist he does not need to use words to proselytize his feelings. With microphones in both hands he interjects a staccato word here and there to emphasize his thoughts while masterly conducting the other members of the band with the slightest flick of a finger. At points he even presses one of the microphones to his chest to capture his soul instead of his words. Tricky is the musical phenomenon that he has always been.

    It's over Rock...

by Hirekeenan on 11/1/16The Sinclair - Cambridge

Tricky could of phoned this gig in from where ever his favorite place is to tweak out and it might have been better. Tricky's whole shtick has been playing off of players particularly female singers. Since he didn't bring/pay anyone other than a sample triggering drummer (who was great) and a posturing pantemime guitarist there wasn't much to work with. I felt embarrassed for him. While Tricky's talent well has never been deep -he's not a singer or player, his ability to create a vibe has always been amazing. I wanted to love this gig. The worst part is knowing that a NYC gig would likely be completely different. He'd probably have a full band, wear something other than nasty sweat pants and be able to use a microphone without creating mic cable knots that looked like fishing wreckage after a hurricane. The worst part was that this pathetic stunt seemed like an excuse to not play the gig. Pay a band or stay home and make records.
