About

THE THURSTON MOORE BAND IN CONCERT:

Alternative rock supergroup The Thurston Moore Band represents an introspective new direction for their titular frontman following his experimental, noisy time with Sonic Youth. While the singer/guitarist/songwriter is known for speaker-shredding feedback and flamethrower riffs, he’s now turned his focus toward melodious jamming in this new project. Longtime fans and newcomers alike will be swept up by the droning, atmospheric meditations of new favorites like “The Best Day”, “Speak to the Wild”, and “Germs Burn”. To help him breathe life into each heady orchestration, he’s gathered some of the best experimental musicians working today: in addition to Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley sitting behind the kit, bassist Debbie Googe (My Bloody Valentine) and guitarist James Sedwards (Nought) will join Moore in his ecstatic riffage. Ticket buyers will witness a new chapter of an already legendary career as The Thurston Moore Band treats audiences to a blissed-out rock experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Thurston Moore grew up in the punk clubs of New York, taking frequent train rides from his childhood Connecticut home as a sort of artistic pilgrimage. A teenage Moore moved to the city in 1976 and eventually learned experimental six-string techniques in Glen Branca’s Guitar Orchestra. In 1981, Moore along with his girlfriend (and future wife) Kim Gordon and fellow Guitar Orchestra-alumni Lee Renaldo founded Sonic Youth. Together, they re-conceptualized the role of noise in rock music on influential albums like Sister (1987), Daydream Nation (1988), and Washing Machine (1995). Moore also made his solo debut with 1996’s Psychic Hearts, which received a warm critical reception. After nearly 30 years together, Moore and Gordon announced that they were separating in 2011, while Renaldo announced an indefinite hiatus for the seminal band shortly thereafter. After relocating to London in 2013, Moore moved into the same building as guitarist James Sedwards and the two began performing as an instrumental duo. Former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley was so enthralled by their live performances that he offered to join on drums, after which Sedwards recommended mutual friend Debbie Googe to complete the quartet. The newly formed group released the album The Best Day in 2014 and supported it with a number of buzzed-about lives shows in the UK, USA, Europe, and Asia.
