The Sound of Animals Fighting on Tour
The Sound of Animals Fighting is a post-hardcore supergroup founded by Rich Balling of Rx Bandits. Following a 15-year hiatus, the band returned in 2022 with a new EP and a series of live shows across North America.
When The Sound of Animals Fighting began performing in 2004, the band's revolving cast of musicians, which featured several members of SoCal ska-punk rockers turned prog-rockers Rx Bandits, would wear animal masks to conceal their identity onstage. They took it a step further, listing only animal names in the credits of their 2005 debut album, The Tiger and the Duke, including the Walrus, the Armadillo, the Lynx, the Nightingale, the Ferret, the Hyena and more.
After releasing the albums Lover, the Lord Has Left Us... in 2006 and The Ocean and the Sun in 2008, the band took a lengthy break and returned in 2022 with the announcement of a new EP, Apes***, and an extensive U.S. tour in early 2023. Don't miss the chance to see The Sound of Animals Fighting in a city near you.
The Sound of Animals Fighting Live in Concert
The Sound of Animals Fighting is an American rock supergroup founded by Rich Balling of Rx Bandits and also led by vocalist Anthony Green. During the band's initial run, they released a trilogy of records between 2004 and 2008, and performed only four live shows following their second album release in 2006.
The band is a rotating musical collective much like Broken Social Scene whose lineup changes from time to time, and their mysterious identity has been enhanced by members who wear animal masks and go by various animal monikers, but was later revealed.
After a 15-year hiatus from 2008 until 2022 during which time they were largely inactive, The Sound of Animals Fighting announced a new EP, Apes***, released on Born Losers Records in 2022, as well as an extensive U.S. tour.

House of blues is a weird venue for a festival. Standing room only. Not a lot of good hangout areas. Limited food options. No vendors aside from the band merch. The sound was incredible for some of the bands, and a little off for others. Fall of Troy was too loud and Satyr lacked low end. The venue is big and laid out well and has a nice vibe. Great show overall.
the concert itself and the bands were amazing. However, the venue needs to have some sort of bag search or bag check instead of outright refusing anyone to bring a backpack in. What if you want to buy vinyl or a larger piece of merch at a show as long as this? There was also no re-entry allowed, so it wasn't like you could put your bag elsewhere and access it halfway for food or clothing and go back into the venue.
Good fun, great venue. Bands were okay. A lot of noise and screaming. Sound of Animals Fighting finally had some decent songs
I paid for VIP which gave me front of stage access (didn't know that beforehand so it was nice to be upfront) but my friends who paid for standing room thought they would also have front of stage access: the ticket sale site didn't differentiate GAPIT and GA2. And so the front area was kinda boring. No mosh pits, no crowd surfers, not even dancing! There were barely any people bc no one knew about the VIP. Other than that it was great but that issue sucked.
Great show! Sound was great and all the attendants were so friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my experience there. I will definitely return for another show.
When I saw TSOAF at house of blues in ‘06 it was to date the most awesome concert experience I’ve ever had, being able to see them again was amazing, thankfully to have shared that moment with everyone there 👊🏻
