    Sampleless

by JohnnyK on 9/18/23Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

Bad experience. The leader of the band was an hour late and then berated the sound engineer for not helping him set up! Sean Kelly should have been there for the sound check and this would not have happened. He was pompous, unapologetic and unprofessional. The management finally stopped the show and kicked the band off the stage. I have been to many shows at Jimmy's on Congress and this is the first time I have ever seen a musician act as Sean Kelly acted. Luckily the management is giving everyone a full refund! I should have given a "no star"rating

    Terrible!

by Not Good on 9/17/23Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

Sean Kelly showed up an hour late after being MIA and then the band got kicked off stage after Sean was yelling with the sound board engineer. My ticket was only $10 and still was a waste of money.

The most horrible experience at a concert!

by Cathy C on 9/17/23Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club - Portsmouth

I was horrified at this show. I had heard of the Samples for a very long time, but never had the opportunity to see them until this past week. So excited. Didn't know what to expect. The concert started out with two guys singing acoustically. They explained that the first part would be acoustic, the second part rock and roll. They were ok, talented, played some original, some cover. Turns out, they were punting....the lead singer had yet to arrive. So, the lead singer (Shawn?) arrives. Starts to sing but doesn't like the sound coming from his mike. Immediately starts to berate the sound guy, getting louder and louder, more vile, more obscene, name calling, dropping F bombs....it was horrendous. Eventually, the club pulled the sound and the concert was canceled. Guess I won't be seeing them again!

Did you ever look so unprofessional?

    by 90smusicfan on 9/16/23

"Saw them"in Portsmouth NH at Jimmy's Jazz club. Show started late with 3 members doing acoustic covers. Sean showed up an hour late looking loaded. Tried to do a sound check, and ended up berating the sound crew. First interaction with the crowd was to tell us this was the first and last time we would see them there. Played 3 songs and eventually got shut down by the venue.

The Samples are never as good as they could be

    by World B on 8/14/23

So in a way it's kind of fun to see band members in the Samples taking shots onstage and frequent "breaks"to the sanctuary of the green room, because so many professional musicians these days are goody two shoes who only drink Evian water. However, Shawn and the Samples' music suffers live. Especially his guitar playing. He still hits the high notes though. Bass player is excellent at the white boy reggae bass lines. But all in all this band should be a lot tighter.

    Ludlow garage

    by L. C. on 8/12/23

Great time seeing the samples after not seeing them for some time. Al and Andy present which is such a treat. The drummer was fantastic and Sean rocked! Andy played sugar mountain and moonage daydream. Great samples hits as well.

    Still got it!

by Cjay on 9/29/19Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens Bank - Boston

Band still sounds a amazing! Sean’s voice sounds like it hasn’t changed since the 90’s! This band has been around for so long you can tell they are in this because they love to play music to their fans! Hope they are around for another 20 years!

    Great Show

The band sounded great! Sean is coming of age. Brought his daughter on stage. Great choice of songs. Always good to hear Sean and the Samples.

    Left early

by Scooter on 6/3/19Levitt Pavilion Denver - Denver

Always fun to see the Samples - I've been seeing them clear back in the 90's when I lived in Steamboat. The lead singer had his young daughter there for the first time. While I get he was excited that his little girl was there to see what "pays for her rabbit food," it got old hearing their show going back to his daughter through the night. We wanted to hear them play, not watch him dote over his little girl all night. We get it...we all dote over how "great" our kids are...we ended up leaving early and going elsewhere to listen to live music

    Long-time fan, disappointed

    by D. B. on 6/3/19Levitt Pavilion Denver - Denver

The Samples live shows are turning into lazy, same-set slogging, flailing into mid-tune jam-sessions whilst playing the same material show after show. I have been listening since '94 and have all of their albums. Why in the world will they not play any songs from Autopilot, Here and Somewhere Else, No Room, etc…same old concert just a different venue. Vertical Horizon blew them away with their energy, sincerity, and talent. Samples new material smacks of late-career ramblings of basement jam-sessions lacking originality and feeling. Also, get your act together - 25 minute delay when they switched to accoustics because of technical issues? Very professional. Disappointed!
