Having been a big-time fan of The Onion satirical newspaper and collector of their works for years, I found the live presentation really lacking. It consisted of a slide show featuring various headlines with the two editors making mostly descriptive and dull comments, not really giving any insight into what drove their creativity or passion. Mostly they just read aloud from the text onscreen. There were a few clever video clips, but these can be found on YouTube. It felt more like a 'powerpoint' presentation than a ticketed event, with seat prices around the $60 mark. I'm really torn about this show--I expected more, obviously, but I can't say it was a worthless endeavor. These guys rarely if ever venture out into the public, so I guess it was nice that they did this at all but I did feel like it wasn't really well-organized at all; the pacing was haphazard at best. Also, giving away copies of "The Onion Headlines" book to random audience members doesn't have the same effect a post-show meet-n-greet would have. I guess what I'm saying is that if you're an Onion fan and something akin to what I saw came to your town, you may want to exercise caution, especially if the tickets were pricey for a mere 90 minute show. On the other hand, if they do more shows, they may improve their format. I want to be clear--I knew it wasn't going to be a live version of their great YouTube clips. But it could have been so much more than a pedestrian "read-along" with a Q & A at the end.
