About

The Doobie Brothers have produced some of classic rock’s most memorable hits. From the polished yacht rock sound of “What a Fool Believes” — a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and ranked by Rolling Stone Australia as one of the greatest songs ever — to the feel-good harmonies of “Listen to the Music,” The Doobie Brothers’ more than five-decade run has made them one of the preeminent live bands to see. Since their debut album in 1971, The Doobie Brothers have won two Grammy Awards, landed eight albums in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and sold nearly 50 million albums worldwide. The band has showcased their 14 gold-album repertoire on a globetrotting 50th anniversary tour that began in 2021 with the reunited lineup of Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald and John McFee playing together for the first time in nearly 25 years.

You have to be careful with memories

by Getting Older has it's Drawbacks on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

We've seen the Doobie Bros in concert 6 times at least. Every concert was brilliant in so far as they accurately represent the band we've come to love and admire. Saturday night's concert was a departure. Maybe it was the effect of a long tour on a 50-year-old band. Maybe it was having only 2 members of the original band present. And maybe it was the effect of performing perhaps your last concert. Whatever the reason there were two groups in the audience. The first group - I met someone yesterday who was at his first Doobie Brothers concert last Saturday. He loved the band and thought they were great. Our Group - Hilary and I left the venue after about an hour. We know what our memories are of the Doobie Brothers and we didn't want them ruined by Saturday night's performance. During that hour we recognized 2 songs from previous concerts (which included the Doobie Brothers' final concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 1984 (which turned out to be a misnomer) and the World Wildlife Concert both on DVD). In each and every concert we went to we shucked and jived to familiar tunes for at least 2 1/2 hours. So to preserve our memories we left the concert. That was not because of the band's skill (although there was a bit too much saxophone for our liking and not enough driving rhythm from the two drummers) We won't go back if the band tours again. We'll sit at home, put on a DVD, and rejoice in one of the great rock and roll bands of our time.

    Doobies Abbotsford

by Gus on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

A great concert! Have been wanting to see the Doobies for a long time as I grew up with them and they did not disappoint. Very impressed that the voices and harmonies were as good as ever. Disappointed that Tom Johnston was not there but the boys covered his lead vocals admirably. Great to see Michael McDonald - one of the most recognizable voices in rock/popular music! Thank you Doobie Brothers! Next time through please come to Victoria on Vancouver Island.

My 1st Real Date Was To A Doobies Show!

by Jack the Russell on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

Dateline 1975. My first real date, Laurie was an absolute dream! We were rear stage over the show, think What Were Once Vices album cover. As lovely as she was, and as hot as she was, the Doobie Bros rocked me rocked me a little while :) Fortunately, as I drum too, they were the best seats in the house. Anyway, fast forward, 2023 - There were no best seats in the house as they brought the house DOWN! Great job guys, vso happy to have been a part (tacitly) of your career, albeit only 1/10,000,000 One thing though was confusing - closing the show with Steely Dans Pretzel Logic? An obvious deference to Michael McDonalds membership, and a great song to be sure, but they shouldve reversed the order of the last two tracks and ended on a DB high note. All in all, fantastic show, missed Tom Johnston, missed Tiran Porter, missed the fellows who've joined the Great Gig In The Sky, and will miss not seeing them again. If'n y'all ever need a campfire to come sit and jam Slat Key, my campsite welcomes you

    Even better after 50 years.

by Bobby on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

Even without Tom Johnson the other singers in the band including Mike MacDonald were absolutely wonderful. Did all their hits of which there are many and a few that I hadn't heard before. Ranks up there with the best concerts I've attended.

    Great venue! Great concert!

by michaelj on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

Easy entry and parking across the street. Well organized. Easy to exit as well. Concert was great even though the band was missing Tom due to physical issues. The crowd really got into it with about 10 songs to go. Long and great encore!

by Luke the wonder dog on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

Awesome night with the Doobies. Pat Simmons is such a great guy. Michael did his thing as only he can do. Great vibe and crowd. We all sang together.

    Half great/half just okay

by Eddie on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

First note, it was a good concert. The gripe: When we bought the tickets, Tom Johnston was billed with the group, no Michael Mcdonald. We don’t keep up on social media , nor did we get a notice from Ticketmaster, of Tom Johnston’s absence. instead Michael McDonald had to rejoin the group. Michael McDonald‘s musics is not our style. It was performed well; just not what we came to the event for. The Doobie Brothers original music was the reason paid the high prices. Michael McDonald was the reason we didn’t attend the concert last year. Patrick Simmons announced all the band members at the end with NO mention of Tom Johnston’s absence or contribution to the Doobie Brothers Yet all the billboard e-signs around the arena, and the backdrop had Tom Johnston’s picture and no Michael McDonald. So we had to sit through half of the original Doobie Brothers, music and half of Michael McDonald. Not what we expected and we would have skipped the event had we known the lineup. Disappointed.

    Pretty good show .Enjoyed

by Cliverock on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

The show was good. Unfortunately Tom Johnston was not able to be there. The sound was good. The seating at the Abbotsford venue is very tight. After a few hours the physical pain of sitting in such a small space can be somewhat excruciating.

    Fantastic show

by Dawn on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

Abbotsford was a great venue. Hotels were available. Nice places to eat , we found parking. All the staff at the Abbotsford centre were pleasant, helpful guided us. And then… The Doobie Brothers.!! Their show was so energetic, nostalgic, so talented, the older they get the better they are. I could not have asked for anything more than what they gave us, their audience.

    Did not disappoint!

by Lydia on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

The Doobie Brothers' music was the soundtrack of our dating years. The trip to this concert was a gift for my husband's 65th birthday. He was so excited to see his favourite band perform live. It was such a great concert. 50 years of performing made the 2 hours plus a well-crafted set that built to the whole crowd on their feet singing along. It was awesome and something we are still talking about.

    Concert of a Lifetime

by Jools on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

I danced (in my seat), I sang (the Doobies hits are irresistible) and I clapped and whistled (loudly). This was a totally awesome concert in a perfectly sized venue. Big enough to get a roar of love and small enough to make jokes about having a senior moment onstage (Michael McDonald). Thank you to the boys for putting on the show of a (my) lifetime.

    OOBIE DOOBIE BABY

by G MAN on 10/31/23Abbotsford Centre - Abbotsford

One of the best concerts I've been to, and I'm really old. The Doobies were awesome they sounded great, 1000 times better then I hoped. great show, and what an encore. So awesome to hear the songs played live, exactly how you remember them. Great venue for sound at Abbottsford. Floor seats were pretty tightly packed, could use a couple more inches, especially with todays health concerns.

    Show was okay.

by Curtis on 10/30/23Rogers Place - Edmonton

Disappointing that Tom wasn't in the line up. Way too much very loud and piercing saxophone. I wanted to gouge my eardrums out. I'm sure Michael McDonald is a very nice guy, but I'm not a fan of his voice. My wife said it best. "A Michael McDonald show with some Doobie Brothers members as guests.

    Traffic jam

by Mo on 10/29/23Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Good concert but really bad seats. Turned out to be the main thoroughfare to the floor. Constant stream of people blocking the view. Very distracting.

The music was great - the seats were awful

by Corrina on 10/28/23Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I purchased tickets for the Calgary concert in March during the presale event, I chose the tickets based on the fact that I am short (5'1") and have trouble seeing over people in crowds. I purchased Row 31, Seats 11-14 because Row 31 was the first row in the third section and had a larger space in between Row 31 and Row 30 in the second section. I was very disappointed to get to the Saddledome last night and discover that Row 31 was directly behind Row 30 and that the sections were not divided the way that the seating plan indicated when I purchased the tickets. I was even more disappointed when the two people directly in front of me arrived and they were very tall people (well over 6 feet tall). My husband literally came up to the man's shoulders when they were standing. I could not see anything while sitting and had to switch seats with my husband so that I could look down the aisle towards the stage. I tried to stand behind the back row of our section, but was told by security that we had to stay in our seats. The security guards didn't allow people to stand until later in the concert. When we were allowed to stand, the people in front of me completely blocked my view of the stage so I moved slightly into the aisle so that I could see. The tall man in front of me was slightly in the aisle also, so I had to move more into the aisle to see past him. A female security guard came down the aisle and physically moved me back into my row and said I couldn't stand in the aisle. I ended up standing behind the middle row, in front of the mixer gates and could see parts of the stage when the people in front of me swayed with the music. I enjoyed the music and we had a great time, but I am very disappointed that the seats I purchased were not as they were advertised on the website. When I purchase concert tickets, I am very cognisant of where the seats are because I do have trouble seeing the stage while sitting behind large or tall people. I know there isn't anything that can be done for the Doobie Brothers concert as it has passed, however, I hope that in the future the event planners can be more committed to ensuring that patrons get the seats that they are expecting.
