About

THE DODOS IN CONCERT:

Indie rockers The Dodos bring a polyrhythmic complexity to their epic folk-inspired tunes in concert. Meric Long’s acoustic guitar work gives the songs a vibrant, earthy pulse, creating a wall of sound characterized by fervent strumming and intricate jazz chords. His cohort Logan Kroeber further accentuates these unique songs with his booming, rapid-fire drum work. The two brilliantly crisscross each other’s churning rhythms as Long croons masterful melodies and hopeful lyrics. This two-man tour de force is sure to thrill ticket buyers with their powerful blend of indie, folk, and world music whenever they hit the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Meric Long (guitar/vocals) met Logan Kroeber (percussion) through the latter’s cousin, who frequently attended Long’s solo gigs in San Francisco. The two began playing together in 2005, discovering that Kroeber’s metal chops were well-suited to recreate the complex African-inspired drum patterns present on the singer’s self-recorded 2006 EP Dodo Bird. That same year, the pair released the full-length Beware of the Maniacs before undertaking a lengthy promotional tour. With the release of the critically acclaimed album Visiter in 2007, they made their official debut as The Dodos while their cult following continued to grow. Their 2011 outing No Color also generated buzz based on contributions from guest vocalist Neko Case (formerly of The New Pornographers), who harmonized perfectly with Long on over half of the album’s songs. Building on the strengths of preceding albums, the band released their sixth album Individ in 2015, marking a new epoch for both their complex instrumental prowess and their immediately powerful hooks. Both in concert and in the studio, The Dodos continue to please audiences everywhere with music that feels both densely intricate and immediately enjoyable.

    Simply the Best

by TRAVISJORDAN on 3/4/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

These guys owned it, it was like watching the tribal war cry of modern music. Guitars were amazing, looped and layered beautifully, and to be honest mind boggling at points, the drums were so unbelievably tight and the communication between the two ...... like a tribal drum circle of awesomeness... with guitars. I would recommend any of their shows to anyone. This was by far one of the best shows I've attended in a long time..Well Done Dodos!! Thanks

    Dodos will blow your mind!

by Anonymous on 3/4/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

When I first listened to the Dodos on Spotify, I was satisfied with their music, expecting the concert to be a very chill, Young the Giant-ish type concert. Well was I proven wrong. Two guys come on stage and create a symphony of music with just a guitar and drums. Their technical prowess really showed in each rhythm and beat and note that they played. They put on such a spectacular performance with such a different sound than you have heard. Although they may be quiet personalities, they let their instruments do all the talking. Imagine 'Muse' said to themselves-hey guys, let's try being Radiohead for a while. That's what I felt when I went to this concert. If you appreciate very technical skill with some African drum beats, acoustic, and alt. metal thrown in there, you will love the Dodos. Great show!!

    The Dodos were amazing!!!!

by Anonymous on 3/2/15Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The band takes a lot of credit for making this night memorable. Hearing them live is probay the most exciting experience. Both musicians are clearly very talented and deliver the same beauty and care with their music, if not more, that they do on a recording. The venue was great! All spots were great for standing. The front was ideal just because it's easier to swoon at the band! But truly you would enjoy the concert from any spot! The bathrooms were clean and the bar was nice. I was glad I had a spot to check my coat, however at the end of the concert it took about 30 min to wait in line and actually get my coat. But other than that, it was incredible and I was very pleased with the concert.

Such a fantastic concert! One of the absolute best I've been to. Couldn't believe the energy and true passion that the performers put into their performance. If you have a chance to go see The Dodos, DO SO. Also, what a great venue for such an intimate performance. It was perfect.

    Dodos are incredible

by TriciaE on 9/14/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I have seen the Dodos twice before live and they are one of my favorite bands. Meric Long's voice is absolutely incredible and they are one of the few bands out there that actually sounds better live. The venue was perfect for the show. I wasn't a fan of the Luyas before the show, but they were a perfect complement to the Dodos and I definitely will be seeing them again.

    Great Surprise

by Mozebones on 9/14/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The Dodos were great as expected, but I must say The Luyas, having never heard of them, stole the show. It was a great surprise. Come back to New York as soon as you can.

    The Dodos are great live

by BrightonShep on 6/21/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I had first heard The Dodos on my Pandora station for Angus and Julia Stone. I love chill, folkie music with great instrumentals. I was so amped for the concert, because the venue is just down the street from us. The Paradise Rock Club is alright, but being that I'm a grad student I found the other concert goers a bit annoying. The opener, Gauntlet Hair, was AWFUL! They were a horrible choice for an opening band for the more mature and serious Dodos. The lead drummer took his shirt off after the first song in order to make all of the teeny bopper hipsters swoon. He looked like he hadn't showered in weeks and kept spitting on the ground. At one point he spit IN THE AIR and watched in satisfaction as it came down on himself, the guitarist, and a few less than thrilled audience members. He was an alright drummer, but definitely brought the rest of the band down. I felt bad for the guitarist on stage left who was obviously shy and insanely talented. Hopefully he finds a new group to join in coming years. After their set, a skanky (also unshowered) girl and a fat blonde covered in tattoos went searching for the drummer and bassist. They came back halfway through The Dodos set, pushing and shoving their way up to the front like an entitled mass of trash. While my boyfriend and I were enjoying The Dodos we noticed the devil's foursome jumping in the air and starting a mosh pit...at The Dodos concert...for real? The venue is NOT big so you can't help but see everyone's everything. This was NOT lost on G.Hair and they pretty much wanted all of the attention on them. It was a shame, because for me and the people near me, it took away some of the fun of the ACTUAL reason we all came there for--to see and hear The Dodos. So, one star for G.Hair (because the music wasn't bad) and 3 starts for Dodos.
