Their voices/singing was fantastic it was unforgettable!
From the beginning, the singing and music was phenomenal!
The performance was amazing! Have seen many many shows on Broadway - this rates among some of the best vocal performances I have ever seen. Definitely recommend!
a powerful story seen it many times but the production made it boring it was low budget basically it was like listening to an audio book
The play, acting, scenery, movement was fabulous. Everything moved with intention and there were no down times except intermission. My only small complaint was rhe vocal enunciation. Particularly the lower register performers (men and altos). It was sometimes hard to understand the words of the songs that were being said. I was in mid orchestra seating so I felt like I should be able to understand all words. Other than that I thouroughly enjoyed the performance and would see it again if I could.
This production was probably fairly inexpensive to mount. The talented cast deserved better than the confusing set design, minimal direction and choreography, and poor audio. Still a stirring story and lovely theater.
I overall loved the show, but it was hard to hear/understand what the cast was saying at times. Not sure if it was lack of diction or the accents or the sound from where I was sitting. It made it hard to understand what was going on and get a clear understanding of the storyline.
I called this show the "bootleg" version and would have given 5 stars, but the background props NEVER changed. But overall, Ms. Sofia "made" the play and I truly enjoyed it.
It was outstanding, the singing the actors and actresses we're phenomenal.. My fiancee enjoy every minute of the show and her sister and brother-n-law. We're mesmerized at how we'll the cast performed and brought the character's to the live stage... One world (AWESOME)!!!!!
We were sitting pretty close and it was often hard to hear what was going on. I saw Hamilton there a few months back and did not have this problem at all.
I was taken aback by how incredible this performance was. I've since recommended it to all friends in the area, knowing confidently that it would not be possible to be disappointed by this show. It was moving and brilliantly performed.
Having seen the production on B’way with Cynthia Errivo, I was pleasantly surprised that this entire cast was just as superb! I took my 25 yr old son and he absolutely flipped for it! Highly recommend that people should see it before it leaves LA.
No set changes (I like sets) but an otherwise great production.
I don’t know what is happening at the Pantages Theater but someone is driving this theater off a cliff! The latest example is a very unimpressive production of The Color Purple. The stage is a minimalist set up where there are a series of wooden platforms with a crate wall with chairs hanging on it. That’s the stage. The entire play has the actors wandering around this set up, feet creaking at every step. Noticeably creaking. There are no scene changes to set the place or time. No props aside from wooden chairs and very little to tell the story. The actors, while good singers and actors simply wander around and require the audience to bring in the entire story in their heads to follow along. The sound was bad, cutting out or missing parts of the songs and dialogue as the play went along. The actors seemed out of place, out of time and out of ideas. Even with all of these mistakes this play is still better than any production of Cats which as it turns out is back once again in next seasons picks... along with a horrible selection of rehashed plays we have all se n a million times before. Save yourself the time, aggravation and money and miss this event! Trust me, rent the movie, enjoy an evening in and see this story the way it was intended to be seen.
The performance exceeded my expectations! The lack of stage props actually allowed me to focus solely on the outstanding cast who were simply outstanding! Uplifting, sad, funny and very entertaining! Five star production! Walt
Best show ever, thoroughly enjoyed. Did not lose attention for one minute. A must see
This show is all about the talent and less about impressing theater patrons with fancy set changes and elaborate costumes. I was drawn into the story immediately and impressed with the depth of character and emotion each actor brought to their roles. AMAZING vocal talents. I would see this again.
The musical was fantastic and fun! Amazing voices and humor too!
Seating area too tight. Need more elevation between rows togive better line of sight
Absolutely loved this play! Singing was amazing!! You will not be disappointed
